My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fluffy, who his foster Mother calls Sigfreid, or Siggy for short, was turned into the NYC Shelter in deplorable condition. His coat was horribly matted and his nails were so long they curled around. Rescue pulled Fluffy out of the shelter and started him on a new life. First, he got a haircut and nail trimming. Next he went to the vet where he was neutered, given all his vaccinations and had his teeth touched up. Today, Fluffy is a new dog!

Fluffy’s original paperwork stated his age to be 11 years old but NYACC sometimes misjudges age due to the volume they get in. Our vet thinks he is around 7 or 8 due to his clear eyes and overall condition. His foster mother agrees stating that he is very energetic and youthful.

Fluffy is a wonderful combination of calm and buoyant energy. He will hang out quietly in the house, sometimes even putting himself in a crate, while his foster mom is on the computer working. He’s mostly quiet and will only bark if he hears something fairly loud outside. When the leash comes out, look out!! Fluffy instantly turns into an energetic puppy jumping for joy. Fluffy loves to go for walks!! Fluffy walks reasonably well on leash, but could use some training in that area. He will bark at people passing by and appears to be mean, but in reality, Fluffy is a very loveable and friendly dog and when people stop and take the time to let him sniff them, he quickly leans in to be petted.

Fluffy lives with another dog who is 16. He has been friendly with other dogs, but he has encountered a couple of dogs, while on leash, with whom he did not like, so introductions to other dogs must be supervised as not everyone is a friend. It is unknown how he would be with cats as there aren’t any cats in the foster home.
Since this dog came from a shelter and his history is mostly unknown, it is best that he not be placed in a home with young children. His ideal home would be with someone who loves to walk, wants a dog to adore and who will be home at least part time.

Fluffy had a couple of accidents when he first got to his foster home, but since the first week, has been impeccably house trained. He does not let you know when he needs to go out, so a regular walking routine is suggested. Fluffy is also in a home with a fenced yard, but he has no interest in being outside without his foster mom. He did learn how to use the doggie door, but still isn’t interested in going out on his own. He’s smart, he’s funny, he’s loveable and he’s looking for a forever home.
