Here's what the humans have to say about me:
(This is a courtesy posting for Barney's owner...do not contact CHEW Dog Rescue. His owner's contact information is at the end of this description)
Barney is a 6 year old English Mastiff..only recently (June) neutered. He was surrendered to me by his lifelong owner who was facing a terminal illness and who has since passed.
I have known Barney since he was a puppy…he is such a goof…typical English Mastiff. He loves people..has shown no sign of aggression toward people. However, he does have a strong prey drive and MUST be an only animal in the home. I have 4 dogs or I would keep him in a heartbeat. He is such a sweet boy. He does lack manners…he had no consistent training. I’m confident this is fixable with some focused training. He knows sit and high five but that is about it. I’m working on his walking manners and not rushing the door for walks.
He is up to date on vaccinations. He is currently being treated for a minor ear infection, otherwise no health issues. He received flea treatment 7/23/17.
Barney loves his Kong toy but will not bring it back when you throw it. He pretty much just enjoys being lazy with his people. He was a perfect gentleman when I gave him a bath recently…I think he loved the massage. I currently have him living in my shop with frequent contact, walks and potty breaks. No accidents in the kennel.
On the down side he did get out of his yard in early June and had a negative interaction with a neighbor dog. The result was some minor injuries to the other dogs and the human the broke up the fight. A citation was issued to his owner by animal control…I have hearing date to appeal the citation on Aug 17. I would expect that there are going to be some specific requirements that have to be met by the average person. In short, the new owner just needs to be aware of the incident and take steps to avoid a second occurrence.
Barney has some anxiety with thunder storms and fireworks. He is protective of the home and owner, but has not demonstrated aggression toward people even when they enter his space as long as the owner is present and controls the introduction. He has no food or toy possessive behavior. Please contact Bill for more information: bshuman58@gmail.com
