My name is Gunner #4!

Gunner is a 5-year-old neutered male chocolate lab. Gunner weighs 71 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 8 and up.

NOTE: 6 Foot fence; they can jump a 4/5 foot fence.

Aug 22, 2017: FUN IN THE ECLIPSE SUN: Five-year-olds Doc and Gunner didn’t understand the hoopla around yesterday’s eclipse but were happy to shadow FM as she experimented with her projection pizza box. Here they are illustrating the tail end of the eclipse as the crescent was disappearing.

AUG 21, 2017: These smart pups learn quickly and now know sit, stay, come, off, back, down, leave it, fix your leash (Doc is better at this one), and go get it (Gunner will usually get a ball). They have gotten better at walking on leash and now wear just a collar and leash. They have become so proficient at sit/stay that FM has extended the time from when she puts down their food bowls from a microsecond to 10 seconds. They continued to show a love for fruit as they sampled peaches this week. At the big playground, Gunner discovered that the climbing walls are designed more for humans than dogs, and Doc surprised FM by sitting on top a tiny mushroom step. They were happy to pose for photos and enjoyed the treats that came with it. Gunner spends the entire night in FM’s bed while Doc prefers a dog bed next to it. Doc has calmed down in the past month and now enjoys hopping up for cuddles and kisses when she hears FM wake up and learned that she must lay down in order to be allowed up there. Aug 5, 2017: This week Doc and Gunner were a hit at National Night Out where they were happy to hang out and dole out kisses, get lots of attention, and munch on animal crackers. They also viewed a vibrant sunset and played with a 140-lb Great Dane who towered over them. This bonded pair loves to play with other dogs, large and small, and has adapted so well to life in their foster home that this morning FM woke to see Gunner’s head on the next pillow and Doc’s head resting on her leg. If you’re looking for a pair of smart turnkey dogs, you must meet this stunning pair! These gorgeous pups love to hang out with their people and are always ready for their next adventure.

Jul 31, 2017: We enjoy hanging out with our people, eating, indoor catch, going for walks, running around the dog park either with each other or with other dogs, fetching balls and frisbees, splashing in a stream or pool, car rides, and cuddling with adoring humans.

Jul 27, 2017: These two adorable kids are doing very well in their foster home and we are really beginning to see a whole new side of them. They are crate trained and will let you know when they need to go out to potty. They get along wonderful with other dogs and look forward to playtime at the dog park. They walk best on an easy walk harness and greet passing visitors calmly. Gunner is a ball nut and enjoys a long game of fetch. Doc will sometimes swoop in and snag the ball but will only bring it halfway back, so Gunner will bring it back and continue the game with you. Doc seems to be a little more curious and will get very excited when you show her attention. Once playtime is over though she will lay in her crate and rest. Gunner is a little more laid back but he does have a playful curious side that is adorable. We are working on commands and so far they sit on command. They do not bark inside when they hear activity outside. These two will make a wonderful addition to an active family who love to play with their pups.


Jul 11, 2017: Gunner & Doc arrived at their foster home and have shown an affinity for the following activities in the past 3 hours.
- Car travel. Doc gives FM kisses while Gunner looks out the windows.
- Swimming. Gunner was caught with both front paws in the water bowl.
- Fetch. We both run after the tennis ball and one of us will bring it back.
- Going for walks.
- Giving kisses to and getting attention from adoring humans.

Jun 28, 2017: Gunner and Doc are a bonded pair of siblings that need to stay together. They love to play with toys, and LOVE to swim in a baby pool. They will take all the water out and carry it back to owner to refill! Doc is a sweetheart and very smart. She follows Gunner's lead. Doc did well with agility training. Doc is the watchful and shy sibling! They are house trained, kept in crates at night. They can knock over the kids in their excitement to be around them. However, they lived with three kids and are approved for kids 8 and up. They lived with a 17 year old cat but with very little interaction, so we don't know how they would be with cats. They are good with other dogs.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound.) Adopters must travel to Maryland, or Virginia with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.

Lab Rescue LRCP has between 40 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia, and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates and locations are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.
