We adopted Apollo when he was about six months old from Helen Woodward Center in Del Mar about eight and a half years ago. When we met this sweet boy our hearts melted. He had a bit of a lazy eye and we were told that he, his brother and mother had all been brought to the shelter after being picked up on the streets where he was attacked by another dog. We adopted him and created a safe place for him but his fear of other dogs, unfortunately, did not improve despite early and frequent attempts to socialize and even private coaching from an animal trainer. Because of his early traumas (we think he might also have been abused before being put on the street) he is a big 'scaredy dog' and has a very tough time with other dogs, hissy cats, loud noises, small/loud children, or intense people (either cowers, growls, or barks). He is usually so gentle and sweet with safe, calm, gentle people and LOVES to play squeaky, bury his face in couch cushions, chew his bone, and be with his humans.
