My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Indy is about 15 months old and is an underweight 50 lb male Mastiff mix. Indy was part of a dog meat farm in South Korea where in late in July the Humane Society International helped the owner of the dog meat farm close and place about 130 dogs all around the world. Indy came to us via Korean Air and we began fostering him on July 29th. Our guess is that Indy spent most of his youth in a crate/cage and is quickly adopting to his new life. What we can tell you about Indy so far is that he is a very sweet dog who continues to learn everyday. At 50 lbs he definitely needs to put on weight and grow into his body. His paws are large and you can tell he will be a big boy once fully developed. We give him some extra meals, treats and snacks to try and put weight on.
We really didn't know what to expect with Indy and have been pleasantly surprised. There will be a lot of first time things for Indy. For example Indy had no idea how to get up and down stairs. After coaxing him up and down the first day with fear and uneasiness he now has no issues and takes his time getting up and down. Indy is a puppy and exhibits behaviors as such at times. Indy sleeps in his crate at night and does very well. Sometimes he will whimper and whine a bit at first but will then settle down. He has not had an accident in his crate yet so potty training has gone very well. He has had one accident in the house and that was our fault. After feeding him breakfast we did not let him outside afterwards. This has been a pleasant surprise for us in that we were expecting him to have zero potty training. As with all new dogs we keep an eye on him and make sure he is let outside and gets into that routine we are looking for.
Indy is learning the routine where first thing in the morning we get up, go outside and go to the bathroom, then come inside and eat breakfast. We are teaching him some manners and try to have Indy sit before we feed him, although with other dogs in the house he gets distracted and can't completely focus just yet. If we get him alone we can get him to sit nicely for a treat. Indy would love a dog to play with and teach him the ropes. He and one of our other fosters play well together. Indy has started showing interest in toys and will play with the nylabone, rubber bone and ball. He does like to hoard the toys and take them from the other dogs given the chance. Indy has shown some aggression with toys and food. This is an interesting behavior since we are guessing he had no toys in South Korea. Check out Indy's video of us playing the world's slowest game of fetch. It's pretty amusing. We've been on a couple of walks and Indy does very well however he walks at a leisurely pace. Our guess again is that he didn't go on many, if any, so he is still growing into his body and learning how to go on walks.
I would say Indy has a medium level of energy and should get more energy as he develops and puts on weight. I think he would do great in just about any type of home. Indy enjoys the outdoors and roaming around our fenced in backyard. It would do Indy some good to have someone that is willing to take him on walks, get him some exercise and take him to obedience training. Given he is still very young this is the perfect time to mold his behavior. This handsome guy deserves a forever home and would make a great addition to your family. Indy is up to date on all his vaccinations and has been neutered. For more information contact Mark or Karla at 630-881-8286 or e-mail us at msr1015@yahoo.com.
