My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Homer is a 2-year-old neutered male black lab. Homer weighs 42 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

Aug 30, 2017: Homer has been with us for several weeks and has gone from a scared boy who wouldn't come out of his crate to the best snuggle partner. His house manners are awesome, completely house trained, he walks well on leash, not a peep while in the crate and gentle taking treats. Homer looks to my dogs for guidance when we do anything from getting in the car to going outside, so he must go to a home with another dog. We are working on doing his business in the yard (he was used to going in the woods) and that is going well. He knows his name, "sit" and we have almost perfected "shake". The past 4 weekends we have driven to the bay and the neighbors are shocked at how much he has changed from the first time they met him. He is looking for a loving, patient family to help him continue to explore new things, another dog companion, someone gone no more than 4 hrs a day and a physical fence. What he does not need is cats! Homer was so afraid of the cats he met at the vet that he jumped up on the bench and turned his head so he didn't have to look at them. He gets along great with my big and little dog and doesn't bother the parrot.

Aug 12, 2017: Homer is a sweet boy who is growing more confident every day. Outside he prefers a wooded or overgrown area to do his business. He needs a fenced yard as he is still super cautious while outside. He LOVES his people and LOVES to snuggle on the couch. At night he sleeps without a peep in his crate. He is looking for a home with humans gone no more than 4 hours without a break.

Aug 9, 2017:This boy LOVES his people. He will crawl up on the couch and snuggle with you for hours. Going outside gets a little less scary every day. His tail is no longer tucked under his belly and it now wags high most of the time inside and outside. Yesterday he discovered toys and has many piled up on his bed. He is great in he crate, not a peep. Peanut butter Kongs are his favorite!!

Aug 5, 2017: Homer gets along with the resident big and small dog. He is completely house broken and walks right beside you on leash. Homer is so gentle taking treats, he could definitely teach the resident dogs that skill. Homer is going to make some family very happy!

Aug 2, 2017: Homer was so scared when he arrived he had to be carried to the car from the kennel. He shook for hours. He went into the crate at home and I had to pick him up to get him to go outside. The next morning my son was loving him inside the crate and then backed up 10 feet and called him and he came out. Only for a few minutes the first time but now he would rather be out with his people than in the crate. He is so gentle and good with the little and big dog. Really doesn't engage with them at all but does look to them for guidance from time to time. Outside can be a little scary but every day he gets a little more comfortable. He is so sweet and loves to be close to you.

Jul 31, 2017: Homer was rescued form a hoarding situation in a home with 12 other dogs and was covered in fleas. He is more confident with other dogs around. We don't know about cats. Homer did well for his two rides to get him to Lab Rescue. We don't have any kid history, so he's approved for kids 10 and up. More on him as we get to know him.

Homer is a 2 year old black neutered male. He was neutered on 7/27 and will need to take it easy until around 8/10. He is current on vaccines and will need a Distemper and Bordetella booster between 8/9-8/16 and a Lepto booster between 8/17-8/25. He weighs 42 pounds. See medical tab.
