HISTORY:
Frannie was an owner surrender to an animal control facility. Maude is her sister, but they do not need to be adopted together.
ABOUT:
The first question you probably have is “What’s up with Frannie’s eyes?” Frannie is blind and likely lived with glaucoma her whole life. Her eyes expanded as the pressure inside them increased. Frannie has been completely checked over by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Her right eye has normal pressure and is no longer glaucomatous. The pressure in her left eye is currently controlled with eye drops three times per day which she takes like a champ. She will need to have her eye pressures checked 4-6 times a year to make sure the medicine is still working. The veterinarian also does not believe her eye condition is painful most of the time, if ever. Frannie navigates quite well and rarely bumps into anything, but she will benefit from a predictable environment where all her needs are easily accessible. Frannie’s foster mom said she is a very easy low-maintenance cat.
Frannie is currently sharing a room with a senior male cat and they get along really well. Frannie can be sensitive with other cats and will react if another cat gets in her face. This is likely because she cannot see to understand the other cat’s intentions. She is great with other cats as long as she knows that she is safe so she would do best with other calm, friendly cats. Frannie has also met the foster home’s pug from a distance on a few occasion and was neither upset nor overly interested. She would probably do fine in a home with a very calm very cat friendly dog. (Remember that Frannie won’t be able to assess the situation nor be able to avoid a more active or more interactive dog.) Frannie’s foster mom also thinks she would have no problem being an only cat or only pet.
Frannie’s ideal home will be a calm and predictable home to keep unnecessary stress to a minimum so her blood pressure does not rise. Frannie is affectionate and will rub up against her foster mom and loves to sit next to her for attention. Frannie’s two loves in life are being brushed, and having a full bowl of food.
Frannie can be a bit shy at first but once she gets comfortable she is very friendly, chatty, and loves attention. We think she is even appropriate for a family with children who can completely understand Frannie’s condition and the special considerations that she needs.
