My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MR. DUPETTE is an incredibly handsome brown tiger tux kitty about 2 ½ years old. Just look at that intelligent face! Whatever happened to his ear, nobody knows, but it gives him a “tough guy” look. He is strong and muscular, about 12 pounds. When he looks you over, he is sizing you up – adversary or friend? One can almost see the wheels turning in that little feline brain of his.

Mr. Dupette is a very smart kitty, with somewhat of an attitude problem. Part of the attitude is that he absolutely HATES being caged. However, since he has been living in our quarantine room for the past four months, due to a “wound of unknown origin”, a considerable amount of “cage time” has been inevitable. Any “out time” had to be shared with the other kitties in the room, one at a time.

Now his sentence has been served and he can be offered for adoption. His attitude HAS improved during his stay. He can be patted, a little, and he seems to enjoy the attention. However, he does NOT like to be handled - he hisses and swats with paws armed with sharp claws. Having had to put up with a course of eye medication recently has also not helped his attitude. He doesn’t trust those meddlesome humans anymore.

Once he realizes that the cage is a thing of the past, there might be some real improvement in his outlook. Sometimes these toughies become completely different cats once they get into a real home with freedom to move around and lots of places to explore. Mr. D just loves food and is easily bribed with Temptations treats. This might be the key to his attitude adjustment program.

Update: He has recently been moved to another room where he has complete freedom. This has helped his attitude already. He is more willing to be patted and even rubs on one’s legs for attention.

We would like to find a very special adopter for Mr. D. Someone who can provide lots of unconditional love and gently correct his bad behavior. Someone who doesn’t mind getting scratched occasionally. He should probably be the only pet in a home with no small children.

Once you have earned his trust, he should be a loyal companion. He might be a great “guy’s cat”. If you think you are up to the challenge, then come on over and meet him.
