My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

“Lady, running down to the riptide…” oh, sorry, you caught me singing a song by my namesake, Vance Joy, but my foster mom says I can just go by Joy since that’s what I am. Pure Joy. I can’t even tell you how sad and despondent I was before Chicago English Bulldog Rescue sprang me from the puppy mill for Rescuepalooza. I had a different name then and it definitely wasn't Joy. But, now that I'm free and happy and safe and loved, Joy describes me perfectly!
I'm 4-years young and loving life. I weigh 60 lbs, but I'm very long, so I wear it well! My foster mom says I'm a very fast learner, but I think it's more like I want to take advantage of everything that life has to offer now that I'm free! I love pets, cuddles, and to give kisses. I learned how to do the stairs in a matter of days, and I love everyone I meet, including my foster cat brother! I didn't have much chance to play before, so now I want to prance and jump and tease my Bulldog foster brother. He acts like he's too cool for school, but I manage to get him to participate every once in a while! My mom says it's because I'm "irresistible". I'm not sure what that means, but since I'm a fast learner, I'll get back to you on that one!
The nice new vet said that given my past life, I'm in really good shape. Besides my spay and a good dental, I'm ready to go! I've been good on my leash since day one, but hey, when you've lived your entire life in a crate, you appreciate the opportunity to stretch your legs! I hear I'm "low maintenance" as far as Bulldogs go, but I'm just being me! I have never gone to the bathroom in the house, and I love my crate. Maybe I love my crate a little too much since I want to be in there a lot, but I'm getting more and more comfortable exploring and my curiosity is getting the best of me. It's a big new world out there, so I'll take my time exploring it!
I'm a very social girl and love companionship. In fact, if you're around and not petting me, I may give you a little nudge with my paw just so you know that I'm up for some cuddles if you are! I think I would do well in a home with another dog. I love to interact with my foster brothers and would love to be a sister.
Oh, I just figured out what "irresistible" means. It means easily loved. Are you up for the job?
