Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Gus #2is a 6-year-old neutered male black lab. Gus weighs 60 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Needs fence either physical or underground.
Gus is from a suburban area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.
Aug 24, 2017: Gus came back as owners didn't have the time to give him the proper exercise and attention he needs. He went to our trainer so we could get an evaluation. After a couple of days trainer asked us and we were told "What is he doing here? He is good in groups and listens and obeys commands. All he needs is a little guidance and constancy". Gus likes attention and is affectionate, will give kisses. Will chase after balls and sticks but doesn't bring them back. Like to go swimming. He is an active dog that likes to go for walks and to play in the yard.
Kids 10 and up. Good with other dogs. Needs to be introduced slowly. No cat history. Knows Sit, stay, down, go to your crate and come. House and crate trained. Had run of the house, went to his crate during meal times Slept on dog bed outside master bedroom. Is scared of Thunderstorms, he trembles, looks for company/reassurance, sometimes hides in his crate. Owner closed blinds so he can’t see the lightening and turn on some kind of noise (radio/tv) to mask the thunder, and just try to use normal, reassuring voices which seems to help.
Gus' story: he was adopted to a young couple in 2015 since then they have had 3 children. Both parents work full time and do not have the time or energy to give Gus the attention he needs.
