My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Millie was hiding beneath a church storage building when spotted by a nearby resident. With every bit of courage she could muster, Millie inched towards him with fearful eyes, hopeful that this person would not hurt her. Her body showed signs of having previously nursed puppies and she was malnourished with numerous abrasions/wounds of an undetermined origin. She was given shelter and immediately vetted and fully vaccinated. She tested free of heartworms. Though her body and spirit are in recovery, she is a healthy young girl who is in the process of gaining weight and will soon be spayed. We hope to have an approved adopter waiting to welcome Millie home once she recovers from spaying. Millie is 28 pounds and working on adding back the weight lost through neglect and motherhood. She has a gentle soul and is grateful for all kindness shown. She is receptive to the dogs in her offsite care home and will be working on housebreaking skills while there. Millie is about 2 years old and appears to be a border collie mix. Her adoption fee is $100. Appointment necessary to visit with Millie so that she can be brought to the shelter for getting acquainted. Application can be submitted online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application/ .

Adoption of all dogs/cats requires an approval process to ensure that they are going into a home appropriate for their needs and that will keep them safe. Each is loved and nurtured by our staff and volunteers during their stay with us and each is placed with same due diligence that they would be given if they were our own family members. Adoption policies and application procedures are at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. All approved adopters must accompany their new family member on the journey home. We do not ship nor transport.

Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines, deworming, vet exam, standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly heart worm prevention treatment. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4.
