The sad reality in Arkansas is that sometimes what people do when they don't want their dogs anymore is take them to the River bottoms to die. Cecil was one of the few lucky ones for whom fate had a surprise in store: his spots must have been what caught the eye of a compassionate passing motorist and she stopped to pick him up. And that's where we'll start his story.
When he was brought in he was nearly starved to death and covered in ticks, and yet Cecil still greeted everyone with a low tail wag and a sweet smile of sheer gratitude. It says so much about him that he could endure what he did for as long as he did, and still trust in human kindness. And we're trying our best to prove him right!! A kind family offered to foster him at their house, getting him all of his proper vet care, giving him tons of love and fattening him up with plentiful food and treats. And to look at him now (watch the video!!) you'd never know!! Cecil is such a great dog, very friendly and gets along very well with all the other dogs at his foster home. He's the first one to flip over on his back for a belly rub, and always happy to take anyone else's lead. He's the type of dog who truly just wants to please: a gentle pat on the head (or another belly rub!!) is all the praise he needs. And he'll surely never need to be punished: a stern glance his way and he'll hang his head in shame. A boy who can go through what he did and come out the other side unscathed and still grateful -- that is a special boy!!
We have no idea what Cecil's true mix is, but we promise you'll wish there were more of him!! Cecil is about a year old, seems fully grown at just under 40 pounds, and is a very healthy boy.
