Mikey is an orange & white shorthair, born approx. May 2007.
Mikey was rescued from the village mill. We have been feeding a few cats there for some time. As most of the cats at the mill are feral we think Mikey was a kitten born at a nearby neighbor's and possibly might be the son of our Penelope who we rescued from the mill area this summer. She was owned?? but was neglected by the owners and had had a few litters. Penelope is one of those people-cats and follows any human around for attention and is just full of beans.

Mikey is a very sweet and gentle kitten, quiet and slightly shy. Because he had no human contact for some time this could be why he is a little shy but he needs a bit of TLC as he likes to be petted. He is slowly beginning to play with his new kitten friends and it almost seems as though he is saying...."Wow! How could I be so lucky to not live under a dirty mill any longer?".
Our personality profiles are 95% accurate based on the cats' present environment; this can change to SOME degree in a new environment, therefore, our predictions on the best matched home are 80% to 100% accurate.
As we have very limited manpower, please also note we are sometimes overloaded and cannot update profiles immediately.

Come Meet Our Pets...

The Safe Haven is located 1 hour east of Ottawa just off Hwy. 417, easy to find, and 45 min. west of Montreal. Visits are by appointment.

Our Adoption Process...

Please first read our Adoption Procedures and Criteria on our homepage at:, then e-mail us requesting an application. We will then review it, contact your references and then contact you by phone for a short interview and to book an appointment for your visit to the shelter. Our visitors usually spend an hour or more to be able to interact with as many of our resident cats as possible, in a natural 'home environment' as well as an opportunity to ask us any questions you might have. We then ask that you return home to make your decision, and if you think you have found a suitable companion we then contact each other to discuss these details. If we are all in agreement, then arrangements are made for your special new companion to be delivered to your home (within a certain distance or other arrangements are made). Our minimum donation for adult cat adoption is $165.00 (an additional donation for cats who have had certain testing or treatments).
