My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sasha – female, vaccinated to date, ~35-40lbs, 7months, German Shepherd. SPECIAL NEEDS.

***PLEASE READ SASHA’S BACKGROUND STORY HERE - http://www.4leggedlove.com/sasha.htm ***

Sasha has been in our care for two and a half months now, she is 7months old. Sasha has been given the Green Light Go Ahead to find a new home! She is finally ready to meet her Forever Family, is that your family?!

Sasha is a special dog that is going to need a very special home. Please read Sasha’s Story and ALL of the information below BEFORE you request an Adoption Application. All available information available is below so please read all that is posted!!

First and fore most Sasha’s adopter needs to be prepared to take on all vet costs that may arise in the future. Her adoptive family will need to understand that Sasha is in much better condition then when she first arrived but is a special girl and may need care later in life as a result of her trauma. Most of her wounds have healed but her front left leg still needs monitoring and she should return to your vet every few weeks until the leg is fully healed and fur returns to the site. Sasha will still need to wear her head cone until the front leg is completely healed, it can not come off or she chews her now scabbing and itchy front leg. Sasha may have further health complications with regards to her hips – THIS IS TYPICAL OF THE SHEPHERD BREED, she may have complications with her back leg that had abscessed, you will need to visit your vet and have this leg examined if Sasha appears to have any trouble with it. X-Rays at your vet are suggested in time. You should be prepared for possible on going vet care that may periodically be needed as a result of what has happened to her. This means both financially and time wise she will require a commitment to make sure all treatment needed is given. If any of the above concerns you or makes you feel hesitant then you should not apply for Sasha. If you completely understand the above and understand that Sasha will be a financial commitment as much as time and love will be a commitment to your new pet and are not slighted by this please continue to read on…

Sasha needs a house with a fenced yard, we will not accept homes where it is not fully fenced and Sasha is on a tie out/tethered/tied while in the yard. If your yard is not fully fenced please tell us how you plan to keep Sasha safely on your property. We are looking for a house with yard, not an apartment or condo. Sasha loves other dogs, ideally she can find a home with a calm, submissive dog that enjoys playing but isn’t a bully and will not bully Sasha as we are already very aware that she is at the mercy of other more dominant dogs, she is also fine as the only dog. She is great with cats (her foster home has cats). Sasha has met children but has not lived with them, she is best suited to a home with no children under the age of 6yrs. Sasha should find a home with an adopter that is knowledgeable of the German Shepherd Breed. If you are not a previous German Shepherd owner and/or do not know much about the breed then you need to research the breed as much as possible before you apply to make sure you are prepared, you should know about breed related health problems, grooming, training and exercise requirements, general temperament... Sasha’s new family should be prepared to take her to training classes for further socialization and training, please supply potential trainers names or training facilities in your area, which you have researched for Sasha. Due to the attack by other dogs Sasha should not visit the dog parks for a number of reasons: 1) she tends to bark at other dogs when first meeting them, she is not aggressive but barks because she is fearful and tries to sound tough her body language tells the other dogs she is insecure and because of this she is easy prey and is very susceptible to attack at a dog park where most people have their pets off leash and have little or no control over them 2) she is submissive and is easily picked on by other dogs whether she is barking or not 3) her body needs more time to heal and the dog park is not a necessary place or good place to socialize a her at this time, too many people do not have control of their dogs and Sasha could easily be hurt.

Most importantly we expect updates and lots of photos of her with her new family! Her foster family and Pyne Hills have dedicated so much time for Sasha we are all going to miss her and want to know how much she is loved! See Sasha playing with her toy on March 12th/09 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gFmEcSVljU

Have you read Sasha’s Story? Do you understand the requirements to owning Sasha? Have you done a considerable amount of research on the German Shepherd breed? Do you have a training facility in mind for Sasha? Do you have a vet reference? Can you financially commit to ALL Sasha’s needs for the rest of her life regardless of how much it may cost? Can you give this pooch lots of patience, guidance and TONS of love? If you answered no to any of these questions Sasha is not the right companion for you, please do not apply. If you answered YES to ALL of these questions without hesitation please email us at adoption@4leggedlove.com – subject: SASHA.
