My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Haywood. He came into the shelter as a stray with an old, beat up shocker on his collar. You can tell by his dull coat and ribby body that he was NOT the apple of his owner’s eye. Most likely, he was just a yard fixture, something that you had to remember to feed a couple of times a week.

But you know what? Haywood is so much more than that. He is a living breathing creature with thoughts and feelings and needs. He has a distinct personality and a unique look (check out that half blue/half brown eye and the ear that refuses to stand at attention!) Just like anyone, Haywood needs good food, good medical care, and lots of love and affection. I’m certain this boy will thrive if someone, anyone gives him those basic things.

We believe Haywood to be about 4 yrs old. He is a larger dog, so we don’t think he would do well to be around small children (one good tail wag would send a toddler to his bunky). Come meet Haywood in person. Maybe you are the one who could give this big boy a chance to shine……

The animals at the shelter have five days to find a home. The Humane Society of Cherokee County, Inc., is the rescue and adoption agent for this shelter. We are trying to save as many animals as possible from this shelter by adoption. The $75 adoption fee includes all rabies, DHPP and bordatella vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchip, and heartworm test.

For a quick response and/or adoption appointment, email us at cherokeeshelter@gmail.com. The Cherokee County shelter is located in Gaffney, SC just a few minutes off I-85 and only about 20 miles northeast of Spartanburg, SC and about 50 miles southwest of Charlotte, NC.

We are very rescue-friendly and will work with reputable rescuers to get these animals to safety. Thank you for helping us to save the life of a homeless, unwanted, and soon to be killed, shelter animal!
