More About KarmaTo see a video of this kitten please go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM_YNeMJOxA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbKIOdkU4Rw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLI-S-lfSxs FOUND: brought home by my 1 yr old cat Leif on 8/10. AGE: Vet (Dr Strom @ Hilton Hospital, Lynbrook) says 3 months based on teeth, but she is the size of a 7wk old. He says that she is just tiny as a result of a tough start in life, and will probably never exceed 5 lbs COLOR: Apricot Calico DX: Vet says that her eyes are gone. Possibly congenital, possibly the result of infection. She was treated with Clavamox (orally)and Terramycin (opthalmic ointment) for twelve days, beginning 8/10. Follow-up vet appointment on 8/22 showed her eyes healthy as possible and no reason to continue with meds. The vet said that in animals like this, the possible future problems could include infection of the eye sack. If this occurs, and becomes continuously problematic, it might be advisable to stitch her eyes closed. At this point, he recommends doing nothing more. I mentioned that the kitten appears to see - chases a ball etc. He said that compensatory senses are not well understood, but he was not surprised by her abilities. On examination, it appears that she also has a slight heart murmur. There is no treatment required for this. MEDICAL TREATMENT TO DATE: 8/10 - tested HLV and HIV negative 8/10- initial assessment and initiation of antibiotics. Wormed and treated with Advantage. 8/22 - antibiotics suspended; initial vaccination; rabies vaccination DIET: Eating 4X/day canned kitten food and kitten dry food. Good appetite and not picky. GENERAL HEALTH: no respiratory or intestinal problems. Normal elimination. Uses box (always). Sleeps well overnight without crying. SOCIALABILITY: Incredibly loving. Cuddled me from day one. Despite vision problems she is adventurous and brave; willing to be with other cats if they will let her. She loves to be petted, cuddled and held. MOBILITY: I can't understand how a kitty with no eyes does what she does - chasing balls and exploring the house. You can see her limitations when it comes to jumping up or down, both are problematic for her. She also can spook at a sudden loud sound and occasionally bumps into things, but all in all, she is incredibly mobile and agile. I appreciate any help that you can provide in trying to find a permanent loving home for her. Thanks, Nancy Teufel 47 Flower Rd Valley Stream, NY 11581 516-791-5308 NNanda@aol.com
