My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MacIntyre, “Mac”, is a black Shih Tzu approximately 3 years old. Sweet Mac is up to date on his vaccinations and has been neutered in rescue.

We’ve only had him one week, but his personality came through on just the first day. He loves to rub his face and when he does, he gives out little growls. His tail is always wagging even when he’s talking to other dogs. He’s staring to put on weight. He’s up to 18 pounds, and could probably go to 22 and look great.

Mac does tend to be possessive of his food and any toys that are around him. He is living with a Lab right now, and they are getting along okay. I guess you could say that they have both agreed to give each their own space. MacIntyre loves to run around in the grass and be outside in the nice weather.

Mac would be great as an only dog, or with another dog for company. He’s a great rider in the car. He does not like to be crated - he will go into it, but you’ll hear him barking and crying to be let out. He is sleeping in the bedroom on his own bed and doing just great. He loves to ride in the car and was well behaved at the vet's office, friendly with everyone. He loves attention and belly rubs. When he wants your attention, he does a sharp little bark followed with a deep bear growl. He’s a love bug, and wants to be with you all of the time.

There is one thing about sweet Mac - at some point during his life something happened to his left eye. He can not see well at all out of it, and will eventually likely lose his sight completely out of that eye. Right now he has to have eye drops three times a day to keep it clear and free from infection. His right eye has a small corneal ulcer, that with the medication, should clear up shortly and he should have perfect vision in it.

Won’t you consider MacIntyre as your new family member? He needs his own loving family home. Mac is being fostered in North Carolina and his requested adoption fee is $250.

UPDATE 6/10/05: The vet has finally decided that it's time for Mac to have his blind, atrophied eye surgically removed. The condition is hindering his adoption chances because of the twice daily care necessary, and, frankly, because of the aesthetic appearance of oozing green goo. Mac's surgery, being done today, will cost approximately $800. Any donations to the MacIntyre Fund will be greatly appreciated. He is the 2nd high medical costs dog we've had this month - the bills are mounting far quicker than the contributions are coming in!
