My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Trace is a 1-year-old, smooth coat, Border Collie with a fabulous disposition and one of the sweetest faces you'll ever see. He is a bit shy at first, but quickly warms up quickly to people in a new situation. He is overcoming this tentativeness quickly since he is in a busy office nearly every day with his foster mom. Because Trace is still a puppy, it will be imperative that his new home continue training, as well as making sure he has plenty of bones to chew! Trace has loved all other dogs he has met and bonded quickly with the other dogs in his foster home. A home without cats will be best for Trace. He is not aggressive, but can easily become fixated and chase. He also adores water and swimming. He is is great in the car and he is learning quickly that great things can happen at the end of a car ride...like a fun walk! He walks with several dogs nearly every day and does extremely well both off leash and on.

He is fairly happy go lucky in spite of the fact he acts as if he was trained with a lot of negative reinforcement. He is responding to his positive reinforcement training extremely well. His new forever home will need to be committed to carry on his positive reinforcement training to build Trace's self-esteem. He does not respond well to any kind of negative training or yelling and will only be adopted to a home that is willing to be gentle and patient with this kindest of dogs.

Trace is almost completely potty trained which happened very fast considering we are fairly certain he had never been in a house before. His overall house manners are also coming along very nicely and we have never heard him bark. He will do best in a home that is a medium loudness and activity level. Not too loud as he can get a little scared. However, Trace is overcoming this issue quickly as well. Trace is also crate trained and he has learned sit, down, loves to give a paw and has excellent recall. Trace has been wonderful with all children he has met, however, he will need to be around children who are committed to the same gentleness required of his new parents. Trace is a joy to be around and everyone that meets him comments on his fantastic personality and it doesn't hurt that he is sweetness personified as well. A puppy application will be required for Trace as well as our regular application.

Trace is being fostered in San Diego.
