My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

4 yr old black & tan male, neutered, undocked tail and uncropped ears. 12", 11 lb. Shots up-to-date. Rescued from shelter.
Charley is a sweet, submissive and happy little boy. He also has some unexplained fears he is working to overcome. Slender and lively, he's excited to see you and runs out to say hi, diving to his belly a foot short of your reach. Time to go out? He does "suicide runs" - it takes about 4 tries to get from his cage to the back door, a little further with each run! Sudden movement or sound may spook him, he needs his crate left open to return to when his courage runs out. And happy? Charley loves to play and tease, chest down and butt up in the air. He bounds like a little deer, even changing direction in mid-air! He will initiate play with ANY dog and coax even the most reluctant companion to play. His antics are downright comical.

Charley has a slight overbite, bright wide-set eyes, and batwing ears that he swivels frequently. He is crate-trained and mostly housebroken, but his fears can prevent him from getting to the door when he needs to. He does fine going out at regular intervals in a secure fenced yard. He is being fed in his den so he won't have to defend his food. He is terrified of the leash, and can bolt suddenly. Charley needs patience and love and a soft-spoken reprimand when appropriate, it may take him a while to get over his fears. But he is more comfortable with consistent rules and treatment. He is not ready for a leash, he is terrified on it and will need to trust more before we attempt this training. Sadly, he is genuinely more fearful with men, but we are seeing all around improvement with more and more socialization with the family. My husband is determined to win him over! He is very much worth it, an entertaining and loving companion. And you haven't been hugged until you've had him snuggle into your neck!
