My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

5/9/10: Comet's foster says that he is an awesome dog who is very lovable and playful! He would do best in an active home and perhaps with another dog to romp with.

Comet is totally housebroken and a very smart boy who is a quick learner. He does not beg at mealtimes as his foster has taught him the "out" command to leave the dining room. He does great in his crate when he needs a little rest, and settles down on the bedroom floor at night with no problem. He loves to go for errands and and waits politely in the car.

Because he is a big boy at 75 pounds and still rambunctious, sometimes gently "mouthing" for attention, he would probably do better with older children. He was a little too interested in the family's cat, so he would be better in a feline-free home. He is learning to walk on a leash with a harness. There were guests visiting the foster's home on Mother's Day and Comet was very friendly to everyone and did not bark at the strangers, although he licked everyone a bit too much!

His foster family is enjoying their temporary visitor very much, and this super boy would be a great addition to your family!

5/2/10: Comet has made his journey north now and his foster says that he is a good boy, one that is a little goofy and seems to think he is still a puppy! This boy LOVES TO PLAY and an active home would be perfect for him. He slept well in his crate on the first night in his new digs. Check back soon as we learn more about this fun guy!

4/1/10: Say hello to Comet!

Comet is a wonderful Flat Coated Retriever mix and is three years old. He is such a happy-go-lucky, friendly, loving dog! He's a great walking companion and loves to run and play in the shelter yard, where he enjoys the toys and playing ball. Comet gets along with other dogs and is great with people of all ages. He knows the sit command and should be easy to train. His active personality would be a great fit for an active New England family.

Comet was curious with the cats that we tested him with and did try to chase one, so a feline-free home would probably be best.

Comet has become a great favorite of our partner shelter in the south. He will be making his journey north in mid to late April.
