found a new home!
Plenty of my friends are looking
for one too. Find a pet to adopt.
Mongo is "a lot of dog" who needs an owner with experience handling extra-large-breed working dogs. He is looking for a strong, patient leader, and a calm home that offers a fairly structured lifestyle, regular exercise and a secure yard. He has shown a tendency to challenge his foster, and we responded to this by putting him through a week of intensive training with a nearby professional trainer. His adopter will need to be committed to ongoing training, and should be someone who can give this powerful, intelligent dog some sort of job. We will give preference to adopters who have previous experience with St. Bernards or similar breeds.
Mongo will bond easily with his new human, and will respond well to loving and consistent leadership. He was raised with three small children, cohabits well with other dogs of all sizes, and has lived safely with cats although he tends to be a little too interested in them. At this stage we feel he will do better as his human's only dog, to ensure that he gets the level of input he needs to develop into a good canine citizen. He can be left on his own during the day for hours at a time, but shows signs of separation anxiety when left alone for a full workday on a daily basis.
Like all Mikey's Chance Dogs, Mongo comes to you already neutered, up-to-date on all shots, and microchipped. His adoption fee of $325 will help offset the cost of his care. Mongo is currently located in Seattle, and we will work with an approved adopter anyplace within the Pacific NW. However, as a full-coated St Bernard, Mongo will do better in a cooler climate, and must have free access to a cool basement or an air-conditioned home during warm weather.
