My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Please note: we do not have a physical location, we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.**

Maverick is a beautiful 1-year-old (as of November) Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever mix. The parents are known in his case.

Maverick and his seven siblings were part of an uwanted litter in the south. The puppies had not been socialized and were very shy. Fortunately all were rescued and two were adopted. Volunteers worked with them every day, and had them walking on leashes and coming along nicely. They went to a boarding facility which keeps them safe but they do not get the individual attention to help them with the socialization they need. The rescue placed three but Maverick is still in need of a home with structure.

Now in Maine, Maverick has come a long way from the scared and unsocialized baby he was with the help of his wonderful foster family. He loves to play outside with his foster family. He will run and bounce around. Inside he's happy to follow them around.

His foster family says the ultimate forever home for Mav would be structured, hopefully with a second dog, preferably with older children - a loving and patient home.

Although it took a while for him to feel comfortable in his foster home, Maverick now greets his foster mom at the door with his tail wagging. He will endearingly rub his head against your hand to let you know he would love some petting. He sleeps in his crate at night, and in the morning they open his crate and he runs into their room to see if anyone is still in bed, and if so he loves to jump on the bed and snuggle up for some love! When he hears someone go downstairs, he runs down and goes right to the door. He knows that in the morning they go out back so the dogs can go potty.

They have been working on "come" and "sit". He'll sit before he gets his food or treat. This is a dog just wants to please and to be with his people!

During the day he's happy to follow his humans around, play some with the dogs in the household, and nap either in his crate or on the floor in whatever room they are in.

In the evening the family usually goes outside for about an hour. Mav loves running around in the snow. Usually they throw the ball, or some other toy, and Mav and the other dogs run after it. When they are done playing outside, Mav will curl up on the blanket in his crate. Mav recently went for a winter walk on the beach and met lots of people and other dogs there. He laid down and got lots of petting from the people. Mav is great at coming when called, either on his leash or not.

Mav is loving the spring! He loves running around & playing with his pal Roxy at his foster home. He's having a great time playing in the pond, which makes for a smelly, but very happy pup!! He's still a little nervous around new people, but he doesn't hide like he used to - he just looks to his foster mom for reassurance. He would make an awesome addition to the right family!! Are you the one?

We would love to find Maverick his forever home he deserves so much. Please visit our web site to find out about our adoption process.
