Chase's Story...
Approximately 6 years old, Chase is a true sweetheart. The term “lap cat” does not do him justice. He doesn’t just sit on your lap, but he crawls onto your lap and sits there as long as you let him. He is amazingly sweet and easy-going.

Chase’s owner recently moved out of the area and could not take him with her. We know he gets along with other cats, but he doesn’t have any experience with dogs. It’s likely that he would be fine with a cat-friendly dog… he just seems to take things in stride as they come.

Chase is currently eating a prescription dry food which he seems to like. He also eats wet food which is by far his favorite. He is currently restricted to eating one protein—chicken. Chase has scabs around his head and neck that seem to be caused by excessive scratching which in turn is thought to be caused by food allergies. He has only been eating the restricted chicken diet for a couple of weeks so we do not yet know how effective it will be. Preliminarily, the scabs do seem to be lessening in number.

Chase would be comfortable in just about any situation. He would be great with children or a quiet household. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, and tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Chase, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
