My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sammi is a sweet, gentle, black lab girl about 4 years old. She has a beautiful black shinny coat and warm friendly eyes. This girl’s story is a sad one. She lived with her family since she was a puppy. The family’s 5 year old daughter abused Sammi and kicked at her every chance she got. One day the mom was upstairs and the daughter came running up crying and claimed that Sammi had growled and snapped at her. Well, without giving Sammi the benefit of the doubt, off she went to a high kill shelter. The shelter volunteers confronted the owners and, yes, their little girl did kick at her all the time and, no they did not see the incident, and no there wasn’t any broken skin. Poor Sammi. The volunteers were beside themselves because they knew what an unfair position Sammi was in. Lucky Lab was contacted and, of course, we felt that Sammi needed a second chance to redeem herself and she did not deserve death.
Here is what Sammi’s foster mom has to say: “Since Sammi has been with us, she has been the best behaved, sweetest and most loving girl. She has been around older children with no problems and she loves being with her people most of all. One thing that she likes a lot is to go for car rides. Sammi sits in the back seat looking out the window like she is a queen. She also loves playing fetch with the tennis ball. She can catch it in the air and will bring it back most of the time - but will drop it eventually and be ready to go again. She does not need to be crated, as she is trustworthy in the house. She is indeed a happy girl and her energy level is certainly not high. She runs and plays outside but settles down nicely once inside. She did get in our pool a bit - to the second step so may very well be a water dog. She gets along extremely well with other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats, loves treats and belly rubs. Oh, she loves to chew - on appropriate things only - like hooves and bones and hard rubber toys. She also plays with rope toys and it is quite funny to watch!”
Sammi has been spayed, heartworm tested, up-to-date on vaccinations including rabies and micro-chipped. She is housebroken and crate trained and would make a wonderful companion for any family. Sammi also knows the basic commands, such as sit and down. Obviously, we can not place her in a home with very small children, but older children would be great. If you can give Sammi the safe and loving home she deserves, please indicate her in the notes section of the online application.
