My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is a happy, fun loving, playful puppy in the body of a sleek, handsome adult collie. He loves to run, jump and generally show how happy he is to be alive, by constantly trying to lure his canine companions into games and tussles. He sometimes gets a little too pushy in his efforts to recruit playmates and has to be put in his place by the other dogs, but Duke never lets this dampen his spirits. He would also love to play with the kitties at his foster home and tries to encourage them by giving them nudges with his long nose, but so far the cats have been far too dignified to join in the fun.

Duke came to MWCR from a couple who found that a young, active dog required more time and attention than they had, and he is now looking for a family that understands the responsibilities of having a big adult puppy. He is fully housetrained, knows some commands and walks well on his leash. He is crated when his foster mom leaves the house because he is still learning what is and what is not appropriate to chew. He likes to go for car rides and enjoys sitting in the back seat and watching the world go by.

Duke’s foster family does not include children, but we believe he would be fine with older kids who would not be frightened by his boisterous style of play. He is very friendly, loves attention and would probably make a great playmate for older, active kids.

Duke is reasonably tolerant of grooming, though he doesn’t care to have his feet touched. He has shown no herding behaviors and is not frightened by storms, vacuum cleaners or other noisy machinery. He should probably have a fenced yard where he can run and play and generally burn off some of that adolescent energy.

Duke is looking for an active forever family that will include him in their activities. Like all young dogs he needs lots of exercise and some gentle discipline. He would love to go to obedience training and that would be a wonderful way for his new family to bond with him and to help mold him into the well mannered adult dog that he wants to be. Another active canine playmate would be ideal. Although he still has a few “rough edges,” Duke is a happy, affectionate boy who will bring a lifetime of fun and love to his new family.
