My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

6/27/10: Baxter's foster mom says that he is a great dog! He is smart, eager to please, and attentive to her cues. She says he is a great dog for a person who wants a solid, sweet, mellow companion. He is happy when he is with his person and will lay down and be still just about anywhere.

He is doing very well in his foster home. He forms a bond with his people quickly, and is much more responsive once the bond is formed. He does great left in the house or in a crate when no one is around. He knows sit, down, and stay. He walks very nice on his leash. His energy level laid-back - only needing a couple of short walks to be happy.

Baxter still gets anxious when walking past other dogs on the same side of the street but it really isn't that bad. The only time it can be a little much is if the other dog is barking at him. But as soon as the dog is out of sight - it is out of his mind. This would not be a big issue with people in a single dog household. His foster mom has to walk him in an area where there are dogs constantly and they manage it easily.

His biggest need is love and attention- he loves to cuddle right next to you and will shower you with kisses if you let him! He would be a great dog with someone who is going to show him plenty of love.

6/10/10-Baxter is a three-year-old pitbull terrier (small for his breed) who was adopted as a puppy with his sister, and is very lucky as none of their littermates survived. They ended up going through mange and worms as wee pups but were troopers and got through it. If that wasn't enough, when Baxter was about three or four months old, another dog attacked him and bit off part of his ear.

Baxter has since lived with a family but their circumstances have changed and they just cannot afford to keep their dogs. It is a very tough choice for them, but the one they feel will be best for the dogs. Baxter needs a foster home with no other dogs or someone who is willing to rotate as Whiskey takes a while to be comfortable with other dogs due to his attack as a puppy. He did live very comfortably with his sister so we feel he has the potential to trust and live peacefully with other dogs.

Baxter is very good with children and has lived with a toddler and an older child. He is a very loving boy! He must a foster home in the next couple weeks to avoid being turned into the shelter where, due to breed, they have said he will euthanized- please if you can provide a safe place for him while we find him a forever home let us know!

Stay tuned for more updates on Baxter!
