Bernie's Story...
Baxter and Bernie are nearly identical brothers born in April 2010 who are looking for a home together. Their only physical difference is their coats: Baxter has medium-length fuzzy fur while Bernie has a short and sleek coat.

Baxter and Bernie are curious and playful without being too crazy. They also balance each other out well: Bernie tends to be shy with new people and hang back to watch, while Baxter jumps right in to the action. In human terms, Bernie would be the thinker and Baxter would be the entertainer. Both enjoy love and pets, and we think they will both turn into lovely lap cats as they mature (Baxter is well on his way already, so watch out whenever you sit down!). They would also like a family or person that can give them some space on the bed, please.

Baxter and Bernie have a few favorite pastimes: watching squirrels, birds, and cats outside (they like to chat through the window with their outdoor pals), chasing flies, and batting around their pom-pom ball.

These two brothers are each other’s favorite buddies, and they race each other to the bottom of their food bowls at every meal. They don’t seem to mind other cats, so could adapt happily to a home with another cat already in residence. They have not been dog-tested, but we think that they would react well given the right introduction to a cat-friendly dog.

Baxter and Bernie, like all ARCF cats for adoption, have been neutered, microchipped, are up to date on vaccines, and have tested negative for FeLV and FIV.

If you are interested in meeting Baxter and Bernie, please fill out the "I'm interested" form at our website, and our adoption coordinator will respond promptly. Please note that we place cats in the following counties only: Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark.

Animal Rescue & Care Fund, Inc. is a small rescue organization. We rescue homeless animals only, and do not accept owner-surrendered pets. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bernie, a Portland Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Portland, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
