THIRD PHOTO COURTESY OF LIBBY VOLGYES/THE PALM BEACH POST

UPDATED BIO 1/9/11: WOW! It's been a while. in case you forgot, I'm an 8 year old (yup, vet thinks I'm probably closer to 8) 8lb schnorkie boy who is being fostered in Miami, FL. (In case you don't know, a "schnorkie" is a designer breed mix between a schnauzer and a yorkie!)

Well, what's been new here? Not much. I'm so happy. I'm hanging out, loving life in Florida this time of year. I am COMPLETELY healed from my broken leg and I run, jump, and go for walks just like every other puppy! I still prefer my mommy to myself, but I get along fine with Lulu and Gia. I like to give them kisses. I am housetrained and don't bark much. Don't you think I'm unique and cute? Would you like me to be your bestest boy? If so, please let my foster mommy know. I love her to pieces, but she says she's starting to get too attached to me and it's time to go! lol. Lots of love, licks, and wags, Mikey xoxo

UPDATED BIO 11/14/2010: Mikey is a sweetheart of 6 year old, 8 lb yorkie mix boy who is being fostered in Miami, FL. When Mikey was rescued, we knew he was at least PART yorkie, but that wasn't as concerning to us as was his badly fractured leg. With the help of some WONDERFUL donors, we were able to fix his leg with an orthopedic specialist, and Mikey has full use of his leg (he can run and jump like any other furkid). Since the alternative was him losing his leg, we are thrilled to see his progress!

Mikey has joined a long list of Foster Mom's favorites. She is in love with this special little boy and knows there is a family out there who wants to love him as much as she does. Mikey isn't a yapper. He is content to take a nap or go for a long walk. (He just went on a mile walk this morning and didn't even phase him). He enjoys the smells and the sights. Mikey no longer has any accidents in FM's home. He is a true gentleman. While he doesn't mind cats, he would prefer to be the only dog. He's not aggressive to other dogs, but he lets them know he wants his person to himself. Do you think you could be Mikey's Happily Ever After? If so, please fill out an application. Thank you!

UPDATED BIO 10/22/2010: Mikey is a handsome 6 year old 7.5 lb Schnorkie who is being fostered in Miami, FL.

Mikey escaped sure euthanasia from an area high-kill shelter. He has recovered completely from the broken leg he had when he was rescued. Mikey wants to make sure all the people who helped him know how much he appreciates it!

"Hi everypuppy! It's me, Mikey! I just wanted to thank everyone who helped donate for my care! Now I can run and hop and walk without any problems! The Dogtor says he's going to leave the pin in my leg since it's not hurting me, and it helps me be strong! I love my foster mommy, but I know I'm waiting for my FURever mommy or daddy to find me here. I asked her why it was taking so long for someone to find me, but she said that's because I was broken, and all the mommies and daddies were waiting for me to be fixed up first. So, NOW, I am going to get applications POURING in for me. That's what she said, and foster mommies don't lie. So, please fill out an application for me! Thank you! Remember, I am crate trained. I am not a yapper. Also, I like people, but I don't want to share my new mommy or daddy with anyone. Can't it just be me?"

UPDATED BIO 10/3/2010: Mikey is a sweet 6 year old 7.5 lb Schnorkie (Schnauzer/Yorkie) boy who is recovering from a fractured femur and being fostered in Miami, FL.

Mikey is doing wonderfully 4 weeks out from his surgery. He is walking well on his rear left leg where he had to have extensive surgery to repair the 3 fractures in it. He is an affectionate boy who will shower you with kisses if you let him. He loves to sit on your lap or by your side on the couch. He loves going for walks and has a healthy appetite (which helped him gain the 1/2 pound he needed). Mikey is almost fully housetrained. He is still being crated during the day when FM is at work and at night when he sleeps. He does have plenty of time to be out and about and is recovering so well! He does have to go back to the specialist in a week to have repeat Xrays and possibly have a procedure under anesthesia to remove the pins.

Mikey gets along fine with other dogs, but he really would prefer to be the only dog. He'd rather have Foster Mommy to himself so he can get all the lovin! He also isn't much of a play-buddy to another dog, as Mikey is more of a relaxed guy. Thanks for reading about this sweetheart of a pup!

UPDATED BIO 09/15/2010: Mikey is an adorable 6 year old Schnorkie boy who is being fostered in Miami, FL. Mikey was rescued from an area high-kill shelter with a fractures rear leg. The fracture was more complicated than initially thought, and the repair/follow-up will cost UYR over $2000. Right now we're keeping Mikey quiet and not letting him run, jump, or be too active. In a month he will have repeat xrays which will determine whether the pin needs to come out of his leg. The vet thinks that it may be why he is not putting very much weight on it yet. It might be causing him pain.Despite this, Mikey is a darling and had this to say:

Thanks, UYR, for saving my life. I'm not sure how I ended up in that shelter, but I'm so happy to be out and to be on my way to recovery. Lots of people pulled together at the last minute to get me the care I needed at the specialist. I tell Foster Mommy all the time how grateful I am by giving her lots of kisses. Foster Mommy told me it's going to be at least 2 more months before I'm ready to be adopted, but I told her if we start looking early, maybe there will be a family who will be patient enough to wait for me to be ready. She says I am a fairly quiet little guy. I seem to tolerate dogs and cats, but I'm not really interested in playing with any of them. I wouldn't mind being an only dog, but if you have a relaxed doggie, I think that will be OK. I also use a wee wee pad or go potty outside...... MOST of the time. Well, what are you waiting for? You see my adoption application? hint hint"

UPDATED BIO 9/3/2010: Mikey is a 6 year old 7 lb (new weight) little boy who is being fostered in Miami, FL. Mikey was rescued from sure euthanasia from an area shelter where he waited 5 long days for his owners to reclaim him. Sadly, they never came for him. His lucky day was the day his foster mom found him and UYR agreed to help him.

Mikey had an expensive surgery this past week to repair 3 fractures along his femur close to the knee joint. He is not allowed to walk for 4-6 weeks, and must only be taken outside to potty. That's OK, though, because Mikey is a calm boy who gets up to use his wee we pad and goes back to bed to relax. He has a wonderful loving temperament and loves to give kisses. He looks at you with his beautiful brown eyes, and it's as if he knows he was saved.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to help him. We're hopeful he makes a speedy and full recovery!

UPDATED BIO 08-31-2010: Mikey is closer to 6 years old instead of 3 years old that we previously thought; he weighs 6-1/2# and is being fostered in Miami, FL. Mikey had his surgery today and he came through just fine. We found out prior to his surgery that he has a Grade 4 heart murmur, so we are so thankful that he did well under anesthesia. Mikey is having to spend tonight in the doggie hospital since it was such a long surgery, but we hope he can come home tomorrow.

MIKEY INITIAL BIO 08-29-2010: Mikey is 3 years old and weighs 6-1/2#; he is being fostered in Miami, FL. Mikey's story is a very, very sad one - he was picked up as a stray - with a broken femur. Mikey stayed in the shelter for 6 l-o-n-g days, not knowing if anyone would come and rescue him; he had almost given up when our UYR angel came in and gently lifted him into her arms. Mikey's coat was terribly matted and he was covered in feces; his eyes were dead and lifeless. His little body was so terribly dehydrated that he required a large amount of fluids, which most likely saved his life. Had he stayed at the shelter 1-2 more days, he would not have made it. He had hookworms and his ears were full of dirt; Foster Mom thinks that he has an infection in at least one of his ears. But even in this pathetic and unbelievable condition, Mikey gave his rescuer sweet kisses.....and hasn't stopped kissing her - he knows that she saved his life and he is trying to show her that he is happy she did.

If Mikey's leg can be saved, it will cost in excess of $1,000 for his surgery. We are all praying that his leg can be saved so that he can go on to live a wonderful and happy life.......it will take Mikey a while to recover from surgery, but he will make someone a truly delightful member of their family.....oh, and the family must love puppy kisses.........
