Darla came into our lives as a foster for another rescue. She was about 8 months old, skinny and had been used as a bait dog. Darla had a ton of issues (none of them her fault) and we worked on them all and made her a wonderful dog in no time.
We fell in love and adopted Darla. For 9 years, Darla lived with us as a treasured, much-loved family member while helping us teach manners to numerous dogs and puppies that came through rescue.
Darla never had a single health problem until she began acting odd, and not quite herself on April 19th, 2010.
On April 28th, we took Darla to a neurologist, where after having an MRI, it was discovered that Darla had Interventricular Brain Cancer that had moved through her brain and then into her spine...that is why we had suddenly started to see symptoms.
Darla passed away on April 30th, 2010.
In just 11 days, Darla went from the picture of health to a shell of her former self and we lost our baby girl.
As painful as it is for me to write this, I want other pet owners to be aware of the high rate of cancer in pets and to react at the first sign that something may be wrong with your pet.
With a heavy heart,
