My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Champ is a black Lab mix. He is a big goofy guy who is 17 months old and 90 pounds of happy boy! Champ's former family didn't have time to give him the exercise he needs and their small children had a hard time with the size of this guy, though he is a gentle giant! .

He loves to carry things in his mouth, fetch and he just learned to swim! He also likes to be near you, bringing you gifts or chewing on a bone. Champ is very energetic and curious. He goes to doggie daycare three days a week which really helps him use up his energy. Champ is very social and loves other dogs.He has shown good manners at daycare and also off leash in play areas with other dogs.

Update - July 2011: Champ has been with his current foster for just over two months now. He and his foster parent have been working on some skills with a trainer. Champ is working on confidence and leash manners and is making amazing progress. For the right treat, praise and play Champ learns very quickly. He plays fetch, loves to swim and socialize with other dogs and people. Now that he is becoming more confident he is accepting more physical affection and settles down more easily.

Champ is very smart and knows and responds to several commands. He does well with come but when it is time for him to come in from being in the yard he hesitates. Again patience, praise and positive reinforcement has made a huge difference with this skill and all others.

He seems to be his adult size now at about 90 pounds. He is long and lean and athletic. He finds his crate comforting, but if he has permission he likes to be on the couch or bed with you if that is ok with you as his leader.

Overall Champ will need a patient but assertive owner who can make him feel comfortable as a member of the family pack. Champ feels more comfortable and happy when he has a human leader who is confident and kind. He loves to play, play, play! He is a beautiful, smart, sensitive animal who needs to find a forever family who can boost his confidence while encouraging him to show his sweet personality.

**Please note: we do not have a physical location, we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.**
