My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 04/05/2011: Dan-O is a handsome 5 year old, 4 lb 5 oz yorkie mix who is being fostered in The Villages, FL. Dan-O came to us from a high-kill shelter and boy-oh-boy was he a mess when he arrived! His coat was so matted that he was unable to walk properly, his teeth were so rotten that they actually caused an abscess (hole) under his eye, and he was a very sad little boy. But things have changed a lot for Dan-O! He is now very happy and healthy. Once his rotten teeth were removed, the hole under his eye completely closed. Because his lower teeth had been rotted for so long, Dan-O's lower jaw is a bit off-center with his upper jaw, but he has no trouble eating, even with only a couple of teeth left! Dan-O doesn't seem to engage with the other dogs in the doggie-park - all he wants to do is to chase the squirrels - only squirrels - no ducks, no cats, no birds. Dan-O has no interest in playing with toys and only seems to be annoyed by the toy squeakers. He is doing better on the leash and although he is walked several times a day, Foster Mom is also training him to go on the pee-pee pad when its raining outside. Dan-O's perfect home would be one in which he was the only dog in the home, so that he would receive all the attention. Does your home have room for a little guy like Dan-O? PLEASE NOTE! Because of Dan-O's size, he cannot be placed into a home with children.

UPDATED BIO 11/14/2010: Dan-O is an adorable 5 year old, 4lb 5 oz Yorkie mix who is being fostered in The Villages, FL. Dan-O has had a busy week. First, he was rescued from sure euthanasia at a high-kill shelter. He was incredibly matted and dirty and didn't stand a chance at being adopted. In fact, he was so matted that he couldn't even walk properly. Foster mom didn't find out until she cut out the mats that he could walk normally. (He actually has a cute little prance to his walk). After patiently waiting and letting foster mom comb him out and make him clean, Dan-O emerged a beautiful little boy.

However, after his grooming, we also discovered that his teeth were so rotten that he developed a small hole under his eye from an abcessed tooth. Now that Dan-O has had his diseased teeth removed (he has a couple of teeth left), that hole will close up on its own. He had surgery on his mouth last week, and he has no problem eating soft food. (He even eats some small kibble whole!)

Dan-O is a lovable little fella. He gets along well with all the other dog in FM's home and doesn't mind cats. He's got perfect bloodwork and urinalysis. He's a healthy little guy, and he's ready to be yours!

UPDATED BIO 11/8/2010: UPDATE!!!!!!!!! Wonderful news! Dan-O got an excellent report from the vet today! He is probably no older than 5 years old!! He is 4.2 lbs and is being fostered in Miami until this weekend when he will be transported to The Villages, FL and his permanent foster home.

Apparently, this spunky little guy's eyes were so crystal clear that the vet said he is likely no older than 5 years old! His heart, lungs, knees, etc. were perfect. We had blood drawn and urine tested and are awaiting results. Dan-O will be having reconstructive surgery on his mouth on Thursday. It seems he is the victim of bad genetics (inbreeding maybe) which caused his teeth to decay and fall out at an early age. We have every faith in the world in our wonderful rescue vet that Dan-O has gone from an almost euthanized senior to a healthy (yet toothless) young adult in no time! Please stay tuned for updates on this little miracle pup!

INITIAL BIO 11/7/2010: Dan-O is an ADORABLE 8-9 year old 4 lb little boy who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in South Florida. With only hours to spare, little Dan-O was given a second chance at being loved.

Dan-O was obviously not well-cared for by his previous owners. He was brought to the shelter extremely matted and full of sticks and twigs. He had a bath as soon as we got home. It took almost 2 hours, but he sat still like a little gentleman. He was sitting in his own waste for days. It must have felt good to finally have a nice bath. Dan-O will be going to the vet early this week to have bloodwork drawn and a urinalysis done in preparation for a BADLY needed dental. His teeth are so rotted, that he even has a tooth root abscess that has formed a small opening under his right eye. The doctor is hopeful that after his dental and antibiotics, it should close up on its own. He has a very small lower jaw and has lost almost all of his teeth from neglect. He eats a soft food diet.

Dan-O gets along fine with other dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats. He is a loving little boy and gives gentle kisses. He loves to go for walks (though he is still learning how to walk on a leash.) Little Dan-O is learning what it's like to be a cherished member of the family. He is hoping there's somebody out there who wants to love him FURever!
