My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweet little girl Mona is a 7.5 lb saved from a Puppy Mill in ARK. Mona when she first came to Rawhide Rescue would hide under a couch with fear that she would be hurt if a human found her. Now no more hiding under a table unless you go after her to get her. She gets along with other dogs. She has also started to play with toys. This is what her foster Mom said about her:

The coolest thing she did this week (12-12-08)!!! She now comes to me and barks when she wants to eat! I feed all the dogs twice a day but, some eat more often due to health problems. She doesn't usually want breakfast, but sometimes she will walk up to me and stare then she bark and wag her tail. If I make her a dish of food then, she wags her tail furiously and barks faster until she gets her food. I know its sort of counter-training having her bark for food but, she invented it and it is direct communication with me which is the route to her having greater trust.

She is a beautiful girl, and I am hoping that she learns to trust me more. I have picked her up a few times against her will but she hasn't relaxed with that yet.

Do you have what it takes to rehabilitate Mona? If so tell her foster Mom what you can do to help her over come her fear of people. Please no children under the age of 15 years old.

Rawhide Rescue opens its arms to many dogs who are from puppy mills, or large breeding facilities, where dogs are bred for profit and not love. These dogs are routinely killed after their breeding days are over, usually at about age five, but we have been able to rescue dogs from some facilities.

Puppy mill dogs are a special rescue, as they have spent the majority of their lives in cages, and have not been properly socialized around humans. Each dog's rehabilitation varies widely, but problems with housebreaking, timidity and poor health are common.

Check the events page on our website for more information and directions to our adoption events.

To adopt Mona, or any of our animals, please visit our website at www.rawhiderescue.org and download our Microsoft Word dog application or use our on-line application. Due to the volume of inquiries we receive, we can only respond to you if you have submitted a completed application.
