Someone Loves Me and I am Going HOME!

1/29/2011 – Haven’s foster mom reports that Haven has only one more heartworm treatment to go through. After that, she will be heading home to her new family in Thomaston, CT. Haven will be joining her new mom & dad, 15 year old sister, and 12 year old canine brother, Jake. Haven is one of those real rescue success stories that warms the heart and reminds us of why we do what we do in rescue. Godspeed to Haven!

UPDATE ON HAVEN

Wonderful news!! Haven has been able to leave the clinic!! She is being fostered in a loving home now with Bud and the foster’s resident dog. At first she was a bit unsure of herself and a little nervous around the other dogs, but she is now able to be out with Bud and Mae under supervision. She is very affectionate and will lie beside anyone for a nap and a cuddle. She is OK in the crate but needs a little push to go all the way in. She is housetrained and can hold it for a long time. . She has very good house manners and chews only appropriate toys and chewies. She does not try to get out of the yard and hangs close to the back door when no one is out in the yard with her so it’s our guess that she was dumped somewhere by her previous owners and did not run off on her own. Stay tuned for more and find out when Haven will be ready to GO HOME!

Fate is defined as the universal principle or ultimate agent by which the order of things is presumably prescribed; the decreed cause of events; time. It was fate which brought our SGRR volunteer to find this sweet baby who so desperately needed to be rescued. Normally, our volunteer does not go to this particular shelter as the shelter will provide transportation and bring the dogs to us. But something told her that she needed to go there and see the puppies the shelter called about for herself. What cute bundles of fluff they turned out to be! When she turned to leave, there in a cage in the room where the unadoptable dogs were kept, was the sweetest set of eyes staring up at her, pleading and telling her, “You are my only hope.” How could she just keep walking by and leave this Golden girl behind? After all, it was fate that had taken her here in the first place. SGRR has named this girl HAVEN and she now has a safe haven while she is nursed back to health.

Haven is thought to be about 6 years old. The photos you see do not truly depict the horrible shape Haven was found in. Her nails were so overgrown that Haven’s paws were bloody. One of her molars was rotten and will need to be extracted when she is spayed. Haven has a dematopic type of mange and she is also heartworm positive, but still her tail wags when she is spoken to. Both the mange and the heartworm infestation need to be treated in accordance with specific protocols. When our volunteer visited the clinic where Haven was being cared for, she saw sweet Haven shortly after being treated with a sulfur dip. Poor Haven, skin and bones, was shivering from being so cold. They wrapped her in towels to keep her body heat in as best they could to keep her warm. We pray she will be strong enough to endure the rigors of heartworm treatment to eradicate the deadly heartworms from her body.

The shelter workers did not think anyone would adopt Haven and scheduled her to be put down that week. But fate would not have that and we know Haven has a place in this world. Perhaps, that place is in your home – lovingly in your arms – as your dog. Please keep watch as we update her progress and watch her blossom into the dog she is deep inside.
