Rufus's Story...
Little Rufus is a tiny little 6 lb long haired tri colored Chihuahua. He is housebroken and very sweet and handsome.

Rufus came to rescue an absolute train wreck. An owner surrender (we RARELY take owner surrenders, they have someone who can find them a home,, Finding Fido feels for the homeless abandoned at the local shelters), Rufus needed us bad.

A trip to the vet on day one and Rufus had a dental that required 23 teeth to be removed. 23! Full bloodwork since he is a senior, reveals high platelets (probably the infection from his rotten mouth), but also high glucose and high alkaline phosphates, which COULD be a sign of pre diabetes or cushings. We hope not. We are running another full blood panel in 30 days to see if it was just stress (hope soo, all fingers are crossed).

Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, the icing on the cake, ready, RINGWORM! yes, ringworm. What the owner kept telling us was hair loss due to stress from their toddler (started when the baby was born, now a toddler) is really RINGWORM, covering his torso. HOLY McMOLY! treatment now for that, on top of everything else. Oh and kennel cough, which seems like nothing compared to the rest of this teeny tiny seniors issues!

Through it all, Rufus is one of the nicest little guys you will ever meet.

While Rufus is NOT available for adoption yet, we are looking for guardian angel sponsors to help with his care while he gets better and up to tip top shape! Please go online at and make a tax deductible donation to help RUFUS (write that in the notes section). We will keep his sponsor(s) updated as to his progress. Rufus, he is a wonder dog!

adoption donation for Rufus is $100.00

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Rufus, a Phoenix Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
