We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult;we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.
Cassie is a 7 year old 5 pound Yorkshire terrier who was rescued from life in a puppy mill where she spent every day and night living on chicken wire without any kind of bed or even a board to stand on. Now she is losing the only home she knows due to the serious illness of both her adoptive mom and dad. Cassie is a sweet but very shy little girl who is looking for a QUIET ADULT HOME with few people coming and going, no raised voices, and someone who can be very gentle with her. It is usually helpful to puppy mill dogs to have another dog in their home, but any other dog should be well balanced, over age 5 and under 10 pounds. (Sorry for all the requirements--we are trying to find Cassie a home where she will feel safe and comfortable and her personality will flourish). Cassie is house trained when taken out on a schedule and will also use puppy pads in bad weather. She is with a 501c3 non profit, all volunteer rescue. Her $200 adoption fee covers only a third of her spay,full dental (she has only 4 teeth left), heartworm test and pill, shots, worming. professional grooming and microchip.
To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.
