My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Katy is a big, beautiful girl with silky soft fur and caramel colored eyes. She has an extraordinarily long tongue. Her tongue is so long in fact, that she sometimes forgets to get it all back in her mouth and the little pink tip peeks out.

Katy was adopted from BREW back in 2008, but her family was not able to keep her and had to return her. Originally, she was rescued from a puppy mill as an older puppy before she was forced into having pups herself. The effects of being raised in a puppy mill are still visible. Her previous family worked hard with her and she has made progress, but she still has some room for improvement. She skitters through rooms and circles around to observe whatever is going on from a safe distance. Katy is startled by sudden movement (but not sounds) and shrinks down slightly or runs away when approached. Her tail is often down or even tucked when she is inside. She is happiest when she is outside in the yard or inside her crate. She loves to race around the yard and plow through deep snow. Katy surprised us by immediately wanting to snuggle next to us on the couch. She walks exceptionally well on the leash, pulling only when she finds an extra good scent.

Katy would do well in a quiet household with a regular routine. She would benefit from having a more confident dog to emulate. She also needs a fenced yard as she does not potty on leash for me consistently. Katy is completely housetrained and crate trained. She potties only a few times per day so she would do well with almost any work schedule.

While Katy may never give kisses or be a lap dog, she is an excellent couch companion. Though shy, we have already seen signs that she is starting to feel more comfortable in her foster home. This sweet soul just needs a forever home with love, patience…and cookies!
