UPDATE ON TREVOR!!

Trevor is presently at the vet's for his Heartworm treatment, where he will stay for 3 weeks during treatment - until the end of March.

While with his foster family Trevor has blossomed into a happy boy -- going from 46 to 60.6 lbs. He has regained his energy and wanted to play with the neighborhood kids. He likes to help with yard work and he picks up sticks, then sits on your feet. Trevor is good with his 10-yr old foster brother Golden. They taught each other to "play catch" - lying on their backs and bouncing a ball back & forth. He has been learning leash skills and will sit when told. He stopped being shy and has gotten comfortable to go up on the beds of the foster family members.

Trevor was OK with kitties at the vet's - he wanted to sniff them but they didn't seem happy about that so then he backed off and just looked at them. Trevor is very affectionate and had a gorgeous deep red coat. He was fur like a Gund Teddy Bear! He has really nice teeth, so he may not be as old as first thought.

His foster Mom says, "Trevor is a card. He will make you smile every day!"
*****************

It breaks our hearts when a senior is turned in by its owner after being such a loyal and devoted companion for so many years. Handsome 8 year old Trevor was surrender by his owner due to extenuating circumstances that did not allow them to keep him. Trevor has had a rough time of it. He was rescued as a puppy and was neutered upon adoption, but that is as far his so-called "forever" people went for him. They never did another thing for him to keep him healthy--no vaccinations, no heartworm treatment and subsequently, he tested positive for heartworms. Trevor was not even enough food to sustain an acceptable weigh. This poor boy was skin & bones when we took him in. It was a lucky thing that his "forever" home did not turn out to be forever, because he is now on his way to a much better life. He is being treated for parasites and starting to gain much-needed weight. Trevor will be starting his heartworm treatment once he is parasite-free and the vet feels he is healthy enough to stand up to the rigors of heartworm treatment.

Trevor is a gentle, deep red, medium-sized dog who we believe will be about 65 lbs. once he reaches a healthy weight. His spirit is all Golden although physically he might have something else wonderful mixed in. The best news is that Trevor forgives all his former neglect and is a very affectionate, happy, and active senior. He behaves more like a 5-year old than a fellow who is 7-8 year old. In his foster home there is a 9-year old human and two other dogs that he just loves to play with. He especially likes to run and he enjoys car rides too. If you are interested in truly rescuing a dog that deserves much more than he's had so far in his life, Trevor is the dog for you. If you can give him an opportunity to run like the wind then settle down contently next to you, he should be ready for you before too long! We will keep you posted as we learn more about this sweet southern senior gentleman with a youthful spirit.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
