My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Please note: we do not have a physical location, we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.**

Tess' foster mom has had her just a short time and she tells us:

Tess was a local surrender so is a little confused about why she is in a new home after four years. Tess has lived with me for two weeks and what a wonderful two weeks it has been! She is estimated at about 4 years old and weighs about 40-45 pounds.

After just a couple of days she stopped the submissive peeing! She is completely house trained! It's awesome! I have had different people in and out of the house and she sniffs them at first, acts cautious, then lets them pat her and even enjoys belly rubs from them after 15 minutes or so. She is a very loving girl and has learned strangers OK to trust, they are great to sniff at, then approach, then get rubs from! I let people know she is "shy" and she approaches them, no jumping at all, she has good manners. The does best when she gets rubbed under her chin to give her more confidence. I call her a "good girl" and she becomes more confident and moves forward to enjoy their company. At times when she is not certain she will come to me and sit on my feet. If I coach her to approach the person and I walk to be next to them she comes out of her shell. Everyone comments on what a cute, silly, wonderful dog she is and how cute her little under bite is. Her black tongue indicates she is part Chow or another Asian breed mix. The vet gave her a clean bill of health.

She stays home during the day while I am at work during the day and she is fine with it. She would be an OK dog alone or with other dogs. She has lived with children, other dogs and cats and now I have a bird she has been exposed to and she is curious and likes the bird. She really is one of the sweetest lap dogs you will ever meet.

At home she is such a silly, affectionate girl. I had some trouble trying to take photos of her because she wants to be right with me when I look anywhere near her! She kept getting too close for me to get a picture of anything but up her nose! She loves being patted, having her belly rubbed and she likes being brushed (which is good because she has long fur). I have allergies and take medicine and she does have more dander than my dog does so I am a bit more sensitive to her, a friend of mine who has asthma and allergies was as well. Tess needs to cuddle and be close and with her dander she would not be a good match for anyone with allergies or asthma.

She is a wiggly, affectionate, portable dog. She loves riding in the car. She whines a bit while you walk away, but settles down. I have been working on this so she is more comfortable. She is doing great.

She isn't nervous or a barker, she does alert me but does not bark too much. Overall she is a wonderful adult dog. She walks every day and meets children and dogs everywhere.

She does guard her food, that is the only time she gets snappy. She only guards it when she thinks another dog might take it. I can remove food from her without any problem.

If you would like a dog who wants to be with you, be a sweet family member, cuddle with you and meet new friends with you Tess is the girl for you!

We would love to find this wonderful girl a loving home to call her own. Please visit our web site here to find out about our adoption process.
