My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Toni was saved in the nick of time and surely is another very LUCKY PUP.

We are unsure of Toni's breed mix but she looks to be an Australian shepherd mix - those cute flopped-over ears, lean body, and gorgeous eyes make for a great-looking girl! Toni is about 40 pounds around 2 years old.

Poor Toni was not well taken care of. Her previous owners would leave her for days on end with no food or water! Some big-hearted neighborhood kids would feed her and play with her as much as they could but could never get her to come close to them. They would throw toys and she would go get them but they could never get close enough to pet her. A shelter in the south has had her for some time now and she's really making great progress - she's just very shy. Toni needs a kind and patient soul to take some time with her and let her know that she is not going to be treated like that again.

Please give her a warm and loving home and take that time for this special girl.
Her foster mom in the south shares: "She is such a great dog. She gets along with everybody here, she loves to play and she loves her squeaky toys. She does great in her kennel and she is housebroken. She loves kids, she trusts them faster than she does adults. She is going to make someone a great pet!"

Here is a note from Toni's wonderful foster mom: "Toni has been in Maine for four weeks now (July 2011). In that time, she has really come out of her shell. She's become very social and will now lay on the couch with her head on my lap and actively seek me out for affection. Her need to wander has even lessened. I think she's really taking to home living and decided that she's got it so good here that its worth sticking around close to home. She has met hundreds of people at events in the last few weeks and been pet by them all. She has met just about as many other dogs and gotten along with everyone. She met one cat and just ignored him. Really, her priorities lie 1)other dogs, 2) kids, and 3) anyone else. I really can't express in words just how special this girl is, but you know it within about 2 minutes of meeting her! She is truly an inspirational story of dog rescue and rehabilitation. She is now, simply put, the perfect family pet!

We would love to find this girl a loving home to call her own. Please visit our web site to find out about our adoption process.

**Please note: we do not have a physical location, we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.**

Thank you for considering rescue!
