My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, I’m Pax. I cannot wait to meet you because I like everyone! I’m a ten year old beagle and still have plenty of fun and love left in me. I found myself back at the shelter when my owner’s health issues became too much, and when a Young At Heart volunteer came to pick me up and rescue me, I never stopped wagging my tail, I was so happy and relieved, because I heard the whispering about my ”time being almost up.” WHEW! Yay for me, it turns out I’m perfect in the house with no accidents and can be left loose when you’re gone. I sleep until my people get up and willingly go to a dog bed at night. I will sit for a treat but I haven’t bothered to learn other commands since, well, treats are the best anyway so what’s the point? I walk very nicely on leash and am calm and fabulous in the car. So far I have not met another dog I didn’t like and I kind of like being around them. I get along fine with my three foster beagle siblings, although I could probably be an only dog as well. I really enjoy going outside so it would be ideal if I had my own yard, not that I’m likely to try to run off but just so I can go and hang out there now and then. Someone previously taught me that the kitchen is the center of the universe, and if you’re there, I’m there too, hoping for a fallen crumb of something. I don’t directly beg but I do stay close when there’s food in the picture…you never know when you’ll get lucky! Speaking of food and treats, I had a few too much of both in the past and my foster family says I’m on a diet and exercise plan, whatever that is, so I can trim down by just a few pounds and enhance my handsomeness. One funny quirk about me: I have an unusual howl that is not the typical beagle arooo, I sound more like a seal! I only deploy this when truly necessary, such as when you come home and I’m SUPER excited to see you, or when you’re getting the food out and not doing it quickly enough, or when my foster sister howls for no particular reason, I decide to sing along with her. I’m sure you’ll find it as endearing as my foster family does. Also, I give kisses! Won’t you let me come and give you my kisses forever?

I’ve been featured in the Lake Zurich Patch!
