Sarge's Story...
Meet Sarge, our long-term resident at AFW. Sarge was found as a stray in April of 2010, and brought to our shelter. Hes a handsome 2 yr. old Shepherd/Lab Mix, neutered, up to date on shots, and house-trained. Since his stay with us, he successfully completed a dog obedience class where he learned new tips on leash training, and some sit and down commands. Not only is Sarge handsome, but he is also energetic, gets along with other dogs/cats, loves to play fetch, and would certainly thrive in a forever home with a big yard and/or lots of room to run. However, he does prefer a home without small children. Sarge is very loving and affectionate...loves to cuddle and be close to you. If you come to meet Sarge, make sure to ask to meet him outside of his cage, because you would never know how very sweet he is by looking at him in his run at the shelter. You can see some of our adoptable pets Saturdays at Petsmart , in Greensburg, from Noon - 6 PM and some Sundays. All adoption fees include spay/neuter and up-to-date vaccinations.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sarge, a Youngwood Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Rhodesian Ridgeback dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Rhodesian Ridgeback for sale in Youngwood, or seeking a Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Rhodesian Ridgeback dog from a breeder in Youngwood.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Youngwood already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Youngwood breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Rhodesian Ridgeback breeders who help with Shepherd (Unknown Type)/Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Youngwood paves the way for another one to be saved.
