My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 4/3/11

This pretty, pretty Princess was turned into a shelter in MA by her owner who was returning to Puerto Rico and could not take her with him. The shelter called SGRR and we were only too happy to help this gorgeous gal find a forever home. Princess is a 3 year old pure bred Golden Retriever. For a female, Princess is a big girl, weighing about 92 lbs and is very tall. She is being fostered in a loving family home in CT.

Her foster family remarks that Princess is the sweetest dog you can imagine. She has a fabulous temperament and she is even good in the bath. Her tail wags all day long without stopping. She LOVES people and loves attention. She can actually be quite insistent when she wants attention.

Princess is great with the family’s kids and puts up with all kinds of squishy love and tail pulling. She has not been cat tested but she was not interested in chasing squirrels. She loves to play fetch with a tennis ball. She is extremely active and plays with the family’s dog all day long. She has a TON of energy and will need an adopter who will provide her with adequate exercise. She would be a wonderful running partner.

Princess has been a shockingly fast learner and is very smart. She knows: Sit, Come, Lie down and Off. She comes readily when called. When she first came to live with her foster family, Princess tugged hard on the leash and she is very strong. Her foster mom has worked with her on her leash skills and now she is a pleasure to walk. She needs only an occasional reminder not to pull. She is obedient, playful, non-aggressive and darn good-looking too! Her chest fur is amazingly softer than a downy chick. She is friendly and playful but she is definitely an alpha dog.

Princess loves the car but she likes to get up in front so we recommend a car barrier. Always remember not to open the window too far when riding with a dog in your car!

The ideal home for Princess would have a nice big fenced yard for starters, and a house rather than an apartment. A few kids would be great too as she loves children but we do not recommend her for a family with little tykes because she is very strong and is constantly in motion so she could easily knock over a small child. A canine sibling would be welcome too.

Princess needs a household where there will be time and attention devoted to her. She has so much love to give and will thrive in an environment where her adopters are home more often than not. She's is not the type of dog who is going to lie quietly by the fireplace and look beautiful. This dog likes activity! Princess is a giant whirlwind of love.

Princess is just awaiting her kingdom. Perhaps YOU can rescue this damsel in distress!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
