My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello World, my name is Mickey!! I was pulled from a shelter in Ohio around St Patrick’s Day, hence my Irish name. If you have a few moments, I would love to tell you some things about me…

Not much is known about my background, but my foster parents are pretty sure my life was not very good prior to being saved by BREW. Despite the signs of a tough life, I have an extremely sweet disposition, and I love to soak up affection. Every time my foster parents come home, I stand on my hind legs and hug one of their legs to get them to pet me. I have also learned how much fun it is to sit on a couch next to my foster parents while they watch television. As much as I love affection, I am not the kind of dog that has to be next to you at all times, and I am often found sleeping in the dog bed room.

I am a bit on the bigger side weighing in at 35 pounds, but I am not fat, just muscular. The vet thinks I am between 5 and 7 years old, and I am one step away from being classified as a couch potato. I get along well with the resident Beagles in my foster home (I do prefer the female over the male), and I have not bothered the resident cat one time. I am not overly food driven or playful, but that seems to be changing the more comfortable I become with my foster home.

I am working on my house training, and I am making great progress with letting my foster family know when I need to go outside. The time between my accidents grows longer and longer, and I am going days at a time without any problems. I am crate trained since my foster parents work during the day (I do get a mid day potty break). Although I do not have a fenced in yard, I am rather adept with getting around the various gates that are set up in my foster home so I must have a very secure fenced in area if I am allowed to be outside off a leash.

If you think you are interested in adopting me, please contact the people at BREW … time for a nap!!!

Note from the Foster Home: Mickey is a truly sweet dog who deserves a loving home. It is clear his life was not easy given the scar on his nose and a significant number of scars on the inside flaps of his ears. He is quickly learning to trust us and truly appreciates being in our home. Because Mickey can be shy and timid at times, he will probably do best in a quiet home. We have no doubt that with patience and encouragement he will continue to make progress and become less timid over time.
