My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"MERLIN"
Green Wing Macaw
fostered by Amanda & Ron of Fernandina Beach, FL

Merlin is a male green-winged Macaw whose former owners were unable to provide the attention they felt he deserved and made the very difficult decision to put him up for adoption. He is now being fostered through Florida Parrot Rescue. He had been picking at his feathers along his right wing which was a definite sign he needed more attention. Merlin is approximately 6 years old and was treated very well at his former home, but when we first got him he was more of a biter and kept to his cage due to the change of environment and of course, missing his former owners. He is still adjusting in his foster home, but has been making amazing progress. He still resists coming out of his cage, but once out, we can now get him to climb on to our arms and carry him around with no trouble at all. He has also stopped picking at his feathers since being in rescue. Merlin has been to the vet for a full checkup, nail and beak trimming, blood work, the whole nine yards, he has a microchip ID as well. He is for the most part a very quiet bird, but he does speak up now and then when you move past his cage. We know he says 'Hello!', 'I love you', 'Bath', 'Up', 'Hot' ,'Pretty boy', 'Want treat?', and some other things we are not entirely sure we understand. His favorite things are wooden toys, especially wooden blocks for chewing as well as walnuts and grapes. He also likes to dance and seems to get along with other animals without complaining. Merlin will need an experienced owner who is willing to devote a lot of one on one time with him for a very long time to come as this species of bird can live to be about 70-80 years of age, so please take this into consideration before applying to adopt him. With the right person and living environment, he will make a wonderful companion!
