MODENA (ID #A018914) is a female, white with black markings, dwarf English spot mix. She was about 1 year and 6 months old when she arrived at the shelter in January 2011. Modena is a wonderful rabbit. She has breakfast with her foster family each morning and she enjoys sprinting around the breakfast nook, jumping and jiggling to entertain them. She has been taught to come with hand signals, offering her treats or pets which she loves! Modena is very sweet and gentle and has become more affectionate each and every day with the more pets she gets. When watching TV or at the computer she will melt into your lap and stay as long as you are petting her...loving every minute of attention! She is a great house rabbit because she is not destructive and has really great litter box habits. Modena will be an awesome bunny for a loving forever indoor home. She is a little treasure!
Modena is currently in a foster home due to space limitations at the shelter, so please contact us at info@petprojectfoundation.org or call 949-595-8899 to arrange a meeting.

Please review this very informative rabbit intro video before you adopt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE6DN7SF5Rs

Starting the adoption process you need to be 18 years or older, complete an application http://www.petprojectfoundation.org/small.pdf, and be interviewed. It is strongly recommended that: 1) all members of your household interact with the rabbit to make the best match for everyone (our rabbit experts will be available to help with this ONLY on Saturday and Sunday afternoons), 2) the rabbit you wish to adopt be an indoor rabbit only, and 3) we will be able to verify with your landlord that you may have a pet if you are renting. Understand we reserve the right to deny the adoption of any pet for any reason. Also any additional requirements for the specific pet you are interested in adopting need to be met. We adopt to the best home, not necessarily the first application submitted.

Applications are only accepted by FAX (949-366-4765), mail or in person. Sorry, no applications through the Internet. Come and talk with our volunteer rabbit experts on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon about the unique personalities of each of our wonderful rabbits. Also, if you are interested in finding a companion for an indoor rabbit you currently have, we can help with the bonding process. Contact us for details on this free service, or any questions you may have. We have many bonding success stories - yours may be one too!

Rabbit adoptions are $45 each and include a spay/neuter, microchip, checkup by a qualified rabbit veterinarian, litter-box training, copy of The House Rabbit Handbook, "New Owner" folder, bag of Timothy hay and pellets, and one free basic health examination within 5 days of adoption from a veterinarian on our list. Our rabbits are fed the diet recommended by the House Rabbit Society.

Rabbits make excellent pets. They are intelligent, social animals capable of forming lifelong bonds with their human companions. Whether housed in a small apartment or a spacious home, the quiet, well-mannered house rabbit will be a welcome addition. Their playful antics will warm your heart for years to come. A well-cared-for house rabbit can a lifespan of seven to ten years or longer.

Please call 949-595-8899 to check if your desired pet is still available. Best days to view and adopt rabbits are ONLY Saturday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 Noon - 3:00 PM. We are very proud of our shelter, it is clean, welcoming, freeway close, and was voted "Best Place to Adopt" by the Orange Coast Magazine!

About Pet Project Foundation

About Our Rescue Group...

Lost and abandoned animals have a second chance at a good life– thanks to the Pet Project Foundation. The mission of the Pet Project Foundation is “to enhance the quality of life of all companion animals in a pro-humane manner through compassion, responsibility, education and service”. Nowhere is this mission better exemplified than through our ongoing support of the shelter. This special shelter provides food, housing, exercise, medical care, and love for homeless animals until they are reunited with their owners or permanent, loving homes are found.

Over 38,000 animals have come through our shelter where they are safely housed and loved until permanent homes can be found. Our pro-humane philosophy ensures that no adoptable animal will ever be euthanized, regardless of how long it takes to find them a new home. This philosophy comes at a price, however. It is through both the dollars and volunteer-man-hours donated by the Pet Project Foundation that we’re able to preserve our pro-humane approach.

In addition to supplying funding for ALL food and medical care at the shelter, PPF also has contributed dollars for retractable awnings over the dog kennels, a new industrial laundry room, addition of a special area for rabbits (the Rabbitat), upgrades to the medical treatment room, and improvements to the cat room. PPF also contributes a significant portion of the funding for the kennel attendants’ salaries, and underwrites a program for residents of San Clemente and Dana Point whereby pet owners can be reimbursed for a portion of the cost of having their dogs, cats or rabbits spayed or neutered. PPF also recently funded the hiring of a full-time trainer for our shelter dogs to ensure each dog receives positive reinforcement training through treat and praise prior to adoption.

Pet Project Foundation volunteers log over 26,000 hours of service at the shelter each year. These dedicated volunteers walk dogs, calm the fears of anxious cats, hop and groom rabbits, and perform a host of administrative tasks - along with dozens of other activities needed to help keep the shelter in operation. It is through the help of these volunteers – and the generous support of residents and businesses in our communities – that we can ensure the care and comfort of these animals.

Come visit the shelter that was voted “Best Place to Adopt a Pet” by Orange Coast Magazine. See for yourself the wonderful care these homeless animals receive – and just maybe you’ll find a new friend and companion in the process!
