My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Mandy has made great strides while in foster care. She loves to be with her people. She would do well in a home with a consistent routine.

AGE: 4 years

SIZE: 36 lbs.

TEMPERAMENT: Reserved initially, but very sweet! Mandy likes to be held and cuddled once she trusts. When her foster mom sits with her, Mandy snuggles right up against her. She does o.k. with men who are gentle.

FENCE: A secure wood or chain link fence with direct access from the house is required for Mandy's safety. She is initially noise-sensitive outside when in a new environment, but has adjusted well in her foster home.

DOGS: Mandy enjoys playing with other dogs, especially outside, but she should go to a home where she can be the one and only.

CATS: Mandy is fine with cats.

KIDS: Mandy has been fine with the visiting children in her foster home.

CRATE TRAINED: Yes.

HOUSETRAINED: Yes.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Mandy has not yet had any formal training, as she has been working on learning to trust. She does respond to sit and come. She will need positive training only. Like most Shelties, Mandy's a sensitive gal and will be confused and scared by negative interactions.

LEASH MANNERS: Mandy is able to walk on a leash, but she doesn't like leash walks in the neighborhood. At the (securely fenced) dog park on a long line, she is perfectly happy. She's very curious and wants to meet all the other dogs, and often wants to smell their humans, but she won't let the humans interact with her unless she knows them. Those she knows, she's happy to greet. It's possible she may come to enjoy leash walks in the future, but her forever family should be accepting and accommodating if her comfort level remains where it is.

CAR RIDES: Mandy rides well in the car.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mandy is very active when she's out in the fenced yard - running and barking with her friends.

BARKING: Mandy can be pretty vocal and would do best in a less busy area where barking won't be a problem.

HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.

EXPERIENCED HOME: In the right environment for her, where she feels safe and secure, and where she is allowed to settle in at her own pace, Mandy adjusts fairly readily. She has made great strides in her foster home and she will be a delightful companion if you give her that time to adjust and bond.

Please read our adoption guidelines at http://www.mnsheltierescue.org/howtoadopt prior to calling or emailing us, as this may answer your questions.

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***

Mandy's adoption fee is $250.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
