My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mayday! Mayday! was adopted 6/12/11. Way to go, Mayday! Mayday!
Mayday, Mayday! This little boy was found after being abandoned at a warehouse early in May. He had been there a few weeks before checking into Camp. While there, he hung out with a pack of big dogs that live there, but the employees could tell he was an indoor dog & was miserable. The good news for the curly fellow is that we were able to take him before all the storms came to Middle TN; on May 23rd he checked into Camp where he now is called Mayday since it was a May day that he came to us.

Mayday is an older boy but that doesn't mean he's not playful. At approximately 9-10 years old, he loves to play. If you have dogs, he'll want to be their friend. Regardless of other animals at home, Mayday will be your best friend. He is super sweet & friendly & loves being doted on, which isn't hard considering how cute & wonderful he is.

Being an older dog works in favor of housetraining, and Mayday only had an accident on the first day at Camp. Being an older dog doesn't work in favor of crate-training for Mayday. Obviously his previous owners didn't train him as such and he barks when first put in the kennel (that's actually not atypical, we just want to fill you in). Since he's housetrained, we've not crated him unless we're going to work and that's to keep him safe from the bigger dogs that aren't crated at Camp.

His small stature doesn't hold this boy back! He weighs 14.8 lbs and is about 16-18" long from collar to base of tail. Mayday is leash trained and loves taking walks. While he doesn't mind being picked up & carried, he prefers being an independent big boy and walking with his head held high.

Mayday is neutered & current on vaccinations. Heartworm status is unknown 5/27/11 but he is being tested 5/28/11 & results should be back by 6/1/11. If he is positive, we most likely will treat him using ivermectin & herbal remedies due to his age, but we'll let our vets advise what they think is best.

Let's talk about teeth. Mayday's teeth are little nubbies. We are clueless as to how this happened. Was he on the streets longer than just a few weeks, eating rocks, & wearing them down? Did his owners put him outside before abandoning him where he was left to eat rocks & wear them down? Or did he just have bad teeth & have to have some pulled? He's definitely not a biter, so that couldn't have been the reason for missing canines either (although i have to ask who would do that to a dog...). It is a mystery we will never solve. Mayday eats canned food but he can eat kibble if water or broth is added to soften it. He will eat crunchy treats, too, so the lack of canines haven't dampened his appetite.

We will update the post with photos & heartworm test results asap. We have been without power since to the storm Tuesday & therefore unable to upload anything. Thank you for your patience.

Adoption fee is $90. Thank you for wanting to share your home with one of our rescued pups!

If you are a parent adopting for your children, please remember we do pick the best home for our pups. If there are 2 applications that come in at the same time, for example, and one will be a better fit, that is the one we choose. Many parents pump up their children about getting a specific puppy, and it can be very sad for the child if the particular puppy isn't a good fit unbeknownst to them. We put this disclaimer here because a couple of parents have been upset when a home that used doggy daycare & had a fenced in yard was chosen over crate-all-day without a backyard. Peace.
