My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Six year old Brice has a common story. He came out of central CA shelter where he was picked up as a stray. He must have been loved at some time as he was already neutered, but no one ever came for him. Rescue had no foster space, so for awhile he had to stay in a kennel situation. Brice was most emphatically not happy with this. He let his unhappiness be known by lots of barking. Finally, we were able to move him into a foster home.

We were worried that he was going to continue to be a barker based on his previous behavior. However, Brice walked into the house, checked out the backyard, instantly learned the dog door and then laid down inside on a dog bed and breathed a sigh of relief. He'd gotten what he wanted (to be inside) and he was content. We'd finally heard what he was saying, and he didn't need to bark anymore.

In a home environment, Brice loves his crate and goes in there all the time to take naps. He also happily crates at night. He is affectionate but not clingy. He enjoys hanging out in the yard. He doesn't get upset when his person leaves.

Brice is a really cute boy. He's a "turkey strut" dachshund and is very charming. (He won over a non-dog person in only a few minutes). Brice gets along with the other doxies. He is friendly with even strangers.

Brice had a complete dental and is vaccinated and microchipped. Adoption application available online at www.scdr.org is required. $200 tax deductible adoption fee
