My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Walter has a very typical "Schnauzer" personality. He thinks he is a person and although he is fine with other pets, he doesn't have much interest in them and prefers to hang out with the "just us" humans. Walter is approximately 4 - 6 years old and weighs just under 20 lbs. He is looking for a calm adult home where he can watch you do your gardening while practising his favourite sport, "bird watching".

Walter is a real character. He is friendly with everyone and loves a good brushing or a cuddle. He favorite thing to do is watch you doing whatever you like doing. He is a total companion dog that just likes to be with his people, enjoys going for walks and making new people friends and just hanging out in the yard or snuggling up on the couch in front of a good movie. He is fine with people of all ages but is not a very playful dog so children would probably find him boring.

When Walter first came into our care it was obvious that although he wasn't abused, he was totally neglected. He was not house trained and would spend most of his days just lying in the yard. Although he was good with everyone, he had no expectation for affection of any kind. When he started getting pets and lots of loving I am sure he thought he had died and gone to heaven. He wanted you to keep brushing him as that felt so good, and sitting on your lap, well that was a real treat. Being held and cuddled, he was all up on that!

He was just a little scuffy thing and little did we know that once he was groomed there was actually a cute dog under all that mess. Some people thought he was a much older dog but that is just the Schnauzer personality showing through which is reserved and understated. He does have his moments when he gets really excited or playful and does his little happy dance but for the most part he is a very calm and reserved companion that just likes to be wherever his people are. He is very well mannered and is polite to family and strangers alike. He is almost completely house trained but doesn't yet know how to tell you that he needs to go out. So, you must be prepared to put him out every so often until he learns how to tell you. He is crate trained and can be left on his own for a normal working day with no issues. He is currently crated only at night due to the foster family have several other dogs that are crated but is left during the day to roam the house and doesn't get into anything.

If you would like a well behaved, affectionate companion, please submit an application for consideration of Walter.
