Johnny Lemon's Story...
"Imagine all the beagles, living life in peace . . ."

John "Johnny" Lemon is certainly a peaceful beagle boy! Only recently
arrived in his foster home, he's already sleeping through the night,
and staying calmly in his crate for a few hours during the day. He gets
along well with the resident beagle pack and is learning to calmly
interact with the resident cats. He's even discovered the joys of fuzzy
dog toys!

Don't let the white muzzle fool you --- the vet estimates that Johnny
is only two years old. He's a beautiful "lemon beagle" with a thick
white coat with pale tan markings, and his bone structure and long ears
suggest that he may have some basset hound genes. He's sweet-natured and people-bonded, and is content to nap on the rug between play sessions.

Johnny came to us heartworm-positive, so he'll be undergoing treatment,
a process that takes several months and a series of vet visits. Otherwise
he is in good health, and he is already neutered. We'll keep you updated
on his progress!

Adoptive Status: Neutered, UTD on shots, and micro-chipped. John will be ready for adoption pending completion of his heartworm treatment.

Owner Aptitude Level: Beginner

About Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland. Inc.

About Our Rescue Group...

Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland is dedicated to helping all beagles in need. Most of the dogs that come into the rescue are hunter rejects, either because they do not want to hunt, or because they are too old or simply ill. Our goal is to rehabilitate these wonderful companion dogs and place them in forever loving homes. We are a network of foster homes and rely solely on the dedication of volunteers. Our motto is: "Hug your hound, don't take him to the pound."

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a centralized location, but you can visit our website to find out when and where we hold our adoption events (usually twice a month). We also take part in special fairs and events. You can come and meet with some of our dogs then.
If you see a dog on our website that you are interested in, we request that you first fill out our Application and submit it electronically.

Our Adoption Process...

We require submission of an online application. If all requirements are met, we do a home visit and check the vet reference (when it applies). Please refer to our website to see the kinds of questions we ask. We ask for a tax-deductible adoption donation of $300. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on their shots (rabies, distemper and parvo, bordetella), are heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative, micro-chipped and de-wormed.
